Hi all,
my motherboard has given up the ghost and now I have a little money set aside for a new one.
I know these what is the best motherboard posts are plentiful via search, but I would like up to the moment advice.
anyway, I would like some advice on what would be the best motherboard to buy.

I have an i7 2600 Processor that I would like to use with it.
I would like to eventually use SLI graphics config
pcie 3rd gen sounds exciting but maybe not a necessity.
I have a m-atx sized case
and I would like to spend $200-300

If that price is too low to get a decent motherboard then I may wait until tax time and get a more expensive one(up around 500-600) but would rather spend that money on a new video card

I'm a little behind the times on new hardware stats and such, ive been looking around for something compatible with my cpu. it has a 1155 socket, I see one motherboard I like the look of that has lga1155. dunno if that is the same or completely different.

any advice would be greatly appreciated.
thanks.

lga 1155 is what you need. 200-300 bucks is more than enough for a decent mobo. Here's a nice one:

Heck ya, that's a nice mobo, but personally I wouldn't even spend that much...

yeah, I want it to be top notch and fairly future proof.

my last MB was a nasty piece of work. It was an MSI which are plagued with problems. they work beautifully for a random amount of time (12 hours to 4 months) then a lot of them die unexpectedly in the same way.

mine died too, i was pulling my hair out trying to figure out what happened to my pc as there was no obvious cause for it to stop dead.
It wasn't until i sussed out it was the MB and started shopping around for reviews on motherboards that I realized the sheer amount of MSI horror stories. each one the same.

moral of the story, one good motherboard is cheaper than multiple crap ones.
I don't want to buy another one for a while.

on that note is the maximus v gene a brand new release? I'm having trouble finding it stocked in Australia.

I've got this one. Great for the money, imo. Been going strong since December with no hiccups.

I hope it stays good. I got mine in august last year and it died jan/feb. It ran like a dream until the day it suddenly died.
it just reset randomly and then kept resetting before the os could load. finally all activity ceased.

I dont want to generally bag MSI. I just read a lot of reviews with the exact same issue. it seems to happen a lot.

If they stay working they are excellent value for money, however, I won't be going back there.

Go with that Asus one Jerico posted, it's the one I used in my fresh computer build I did a couple of weeks ago and it's great! There's not a better board for the price when you're using a Micro ATX form factor.

@Kezzla

Hm... Well, if it does stay good, I guess I'm one of the rare cases of that.
