Wait, you're insinuating that forum members are the ones who disliked your videos? Maybe you got dislikes because the guy asked for a head shot - y'know, like when a sniper gets ya' in the head, and not what you shot. That's probably what all the dislikes were about.

Anyway, if you want more advice I'd suggest NOT insinuating that forum members are the ones who disliked your video while asking for help. It just looks bad.

EDIT - Missed half a sentence so had to fix it!

Its not lipstick. Its actually my lips
For months my lips have been cracked and I had to wear a lot of lip ointment.... I did not know it looked like lip stick. I seriously wished it did not...

If you want a great movie, you need to know how to do everything. Directors do not get directed. The advice you got was to make a movie short, and I told you some cheap movie productions to watch. If you want to be ambitious be professionally ambitious. Don't concentrate 100% on the money, concentrate 100% on the project. And you do need a script writer, so obvious is obviously what counts.

Don't type in all caps and with bold font. I am being serious, when I say that because it gives off a slight impression of immaturity.

This is also related to the original quote in your first post.

1/ Zombies are too obvious.
2/ The best part of a movie is the story.
3/ Come up with a good story.
4/ Make a good movie.

There you go, that's all you need to know. Apart from actually making the film for you there isn't much else to say.

You really need an attitude adjustment, Zach. People aren't going to help or want to help you if you don't change your attitude. I say this with the hope and faith that you'll realize this.

Anyway, I know of some great resources for independent filmmaking. It's a subject I researched thoroughly for many years before I found my true interest with game development.

What makes a great movie is pretty much the following list...

Story - Without a good, compelling (even if it's a comedy) story, any movie will flop.

Lighting and sound - These two are so often overlooked. With the right equipment for lighting and sound, not only can you add different emotions to the scene, you can control how it looks and sound.

Cast - Obviously, your actors/actresses are what will truly bring your story to life. Without people who can act properly, you as a director will have a nightmare on your hands trying to get something shot properly.

The camera - This is sort of true and not true at the same time. Obviously, with a grade-A Hollywood film camera you can accomplish a lot, but the camera is only as good as you are. If you don't know the first thing about f-stops, aperture settings or what "all manual" means, you need to study them by looking into photography/videography a bit more in-depth. Also; camera movements! With the right movements and speed, you can tension or other emotion to your scenes by simply moving the camera.

If you want more information and lessons, do what I did between 2004-2011 and use GOOGLE! It is seriously your best friend in this situation. Look up books, websites, tutorial videos, just research the whole package. Check out sites and forums like videomaker.com and indietalk.com. Just use your head and Google terms that you are interested in!

EDIT - I forgot the most important thing; get our there and shoot! Learn how to use your camera. The best way of doing this is to shoot, shoot shoot! Shoot footage under different conditions to learn how your camera works in those settings. Always experiment and try something new!

I also agree with this... It makes you seem desperate and very angry or concerned that you may not get an answer. Just my constructive feedback for you in general.

Okay... *Sigh and facepalm* I really embarrassed myself... Well thank you I'll try photography a little. The problem with film making is that I don't have the proper computer or Software.

Special effects software or video editing software?

I love and use Sony Vegas Movie Studio for video editing. For special effects, check out fxhome.com. They've got a nice package.

As for your computer issues, I can relate! For a decent video editing machine, get a desktop with a decent dedicated GPU, a decent amount of RAM (at least 6GB I'd say), and of course a whopping big hard drive. You can get a computer with those specs for under $800 if you shop carefully.

This just seems like an excuse to me. Its like someone saying, I can't paint a digital masterpiece because I don't own photoshop.

The software doesn't define your skill. Certainly, software can make things easier, but having it doesn't make you a great film maker.

I think Drew Cameron had some useful advice in your previous thread and linked you to a useful article. The importance of his message was 'start small'. The problem with many of your ideas is that they're over ambitious. It's not to say you won't ever be able to do them, but look at many amateur film makers on YouTube (and I mean people who make short films, not people who moan at their webcam). They just do small stuff that doesn't require much of a budget or amazing software. Seriously, Windows Live Movie Maker would even suffice as an editing tool, it's basic, but it works. Plus there's other free software out there for you to use.

Check out some of the videos by TomSka, I know his stuff is comedy, but you can see that he just some very short pieces of film that doesn't require a lot of money to make.

Here's one where he uses some special effects.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hjoDOnzr5s

Or just come up with an idea that's doable and just well...do it, regardless of the lack of production quality, if you've got good ideas and can make for something that's entertaining you're making a good start, polish can come later. Think of it like game development, your initial projects may lack professional quality, they may be short, but they're still fun to play, because the ideas are good and you've executed them well.

I think watching Drew Cameron's Milk Paton series is also useful because at the start you see it's just short episodes, with basic stuff production wise, but as the series goes on more and more is done.

If you don't like Windows Movie Maker, try something else, there's free and cheap solutions out there.

Here's a website that list 'alternative' programs and list alternatives for Premiere:

http://alternativeto.net/software/adobe-premiere-pro/?license=free

So take your pick.

Wax Video Editor is free and has more than just this tutorial if you search on youtube. It can be fiddly when you first start as compared with using Adobe Premier but it is decent. The 3d effects in it are pretty cool too.

You know, writing the fic that got voted most popular in the pony shipping category with 1/5th of the vote, out of hundreds of other fics out there. Defining the characterisation of two otherwise ambiguous characters for an entire fandom. Then the feedback, receiving somewhere in the order of six to ten fan songs, four live readings, and a simply immeasurable amount of fanart, (my best estimates are ~50-100 pieces, but mroe might be out there that I've missed.)

I feel that qualifies. There's also the 850 watchers on my DeviantArt and counting, Allegrezza received somewhere in the order of 1.5k readers each on Equestria Daily and FiMFiction.

So considering the fact that I've written for a fanbase of a thousand or two, yeah, I do know. And that was just one of my fictions. The more popular one, granted, but still...

Anyway Zack, that's twice you've passively insulted me in the last three days.

Yeah, it is great, best feeling in the world.

Until other people come along to hate your work. You're bawling at a mere handful of thumbs-downs. Imagine spending six months on a project, releasing the final piece, and receiving a horde of essays on why it disappointed people. Then a small war breaks out with people arguing over the stories' ending, if it should be changed, etc, etc...

Just...what do you exactly aim to do on YouTUbe? What do you want to create? Are you aiming to get popular, or create something?

So you're aiming to get an audience by resorting to cheap shock laughs that are instantly forgettable and get old fast?

The best comedy out there gets laughs without insulting anyone. It's not extremist not to like cursing used as a fishing rod for light laughs, only little kids even find that funny anyway.

The comedians still loved even after they die, are the ones who use witty remarks. Noone is insulted, so everyone can enjoy them. I'm trying to think of American shows, but there's so many shows in Britain that are comedies made in the previous century. They're fairly old, pretty inoffensive, and still loved to this day because they're timelessly written.
