The Game Creators have lots of news and it's happening faster than ever before. We don't want you to have to wait a whole month to find out what's happening, we want you to know about it the moment after we've thought about it. Our updated site is packed full of news, product updates and everything else you expect from your monthly newsletter delivery...only faster and more up to the minute.

You can now find all the latest news here: http://www.thegamecreators.com/news/

You know what? I was sat here whilst browsing the forum mourning the fact the newsletter did not come out this morning, knowing it had been euthanized.

Good to see that he did not die vain and he left us with an heir to take his place.

Just had a look, this seems like to be a decent alternative.

One question, is it possible for user to submit their own articles? (even if subject to moderation from TGC staff or mods) Just thinking because users could probably write their own tutorials or offer interesting articles surrounding TGC products and so on.

If you have anything of interest, get in touch with me. I'm more than happy to consider games/tutorials/articles on game development. As with the newsletter previously, the author is always credited with the content. In this respect, nothing has changed, other than we have more opportunity to post in a more timely manner.

Well, it's always hard to say goodbye to something/someone, but this is a worthy successor.
Just noticed something, though. Seems there are less articles in this one?
So, is this going to be updated regularly?
Nice work, guys!

Yes it will be updated several times a month, no need to wait until the first of the month any more.

By the way, you can also subscribe to the RSS feed using Google Reader of any other news reader. Looks rather nice in a tablet news reader
Facebook stopped allowing RSS feeds to FB pages, so it will be a manual update to sync the two.

Am I the only one that was a BIG fan of that fact? Plus that newsletters are always fun.

Good job on the new system though, great stuff!

Cheers,

I always looked forward to the newsletter day, before I was editor. I even worked out how to read it as it was being written

I believe the new system is a better way to do it, and it will take time to get used to it. I don't think that "instant gratification" is good for all things, but news can be old news within a month.

How will we be able to look up old news items in the new system? Under the old system someone could say "have a look at newsletter 63 there's an article on your problem there"? It would then take just a second to find my copy and look it up.

I found the new system a bit unclear. I wasn't sure what it actually contained or where to look and just ended up clicking everything in the hope that I'd find something interesting (I did but it was hard work finding it).

The archives are available on the right, by month. So if you want a list of articles for April, just head straight for the archive.

I'm trying to tag articles consistently, so you can use the Tag Cloud for related articles

Across the top there are the categories, which are further broken down...e.g Products has a submenu for DBP, AppGameKit, FPSC etc

On the home page, you'll always get the latest 5 articles for TGC news, Community activity, Products and Learning.

If you have any other ideas, let me know and I'll see what we can do.

Heh, usually get here by a bookmark directly to the forums, so I missed the website overhaul. Looks a lot cleaner now!

Did used to look forward to the monthly newsletter but I guess this makes sense. And while I'm not sure how practical it would be with the site's setup an RSS feed would be nice, since I get most of my news through Flipboard on iOS and I'm sure there are others here who use similar apps.

Edit: Ah, and I get an email about the news - with an RSS link! It might be a good idea to place an icon with the link somewhere on the news page itself for future users.

Still not used to visit the news section, the newsletter was kind of a reminder.
Maybe you can summarize a monthly report based on the news
Oh well, don't want to bring you down, I need more time to get used to the new format

I miss the Newsletter also. It's bad enough that I have to pay bills at the first of the month. Now nothing to read with my coffee. Tgc had a good thing going. Sorry to see it go. Maybe some day it will come back. Maybe if we all whine enough?

I always looked forward to e-mail notice when the newsletter came out, I would click that link every time. I would welcome a weekly or even monthly update notice of whats going on the site in the same way but I don't see any kind of sign up for this on the site or in my profile.

Awesome! Its one of those threads.

I'll talk to Rick about it. We should be able to provide a summary of articles from the past month, but I don't know how the old email system is still geared up.

Why can't they have a locked thread that produces an email notice? Mind you my email is ancient, and connects to AOL which I am not using anymore.

We'll be sending a monthly email to anyone who was registered with the newsletter. So, as long as you don't peek at the news site, you can get it all in one go again!
