I change my comp to better and install DBC and win98 and all progs to new comp. Everything else look well except DBC which looks like this when I started it.

What to do? My new comp uses drr333 -memory so need I upgrade win98 to win xp?

It look like your monitor is not set to accept 640x480 resolution.

From the desktop switch to 640x480 and set your monitor.

This is strange, I switched to 640x480 but screen went messy so I cant use 640x480 mode at all. I have also loaded latest drivers, it didnt help

Nor does any old 640x480 game work anymore. How can I get 640 mode back? Or can DBC be started in 800x600 mode?

Uninstall all your video AND monitor drivers. (You can get the driver names before and manually delete them if you don't have an uninstaller. If you don't delete them Plug and Play will reinstall them.)
Delete both devices from your system using the device manager. Reboot to VGA (16 color).
Then load the drivers that originally came with your video card and monitor. (If you don't have the driver CD you should D/L the drivers and put them on your hard drive where you can install from, before you start this process.)

Then all should be well and good in 640x480 land.

Yeah, that is what I was going to say...

Use DarkEdit, I never even used the Dark Basic Classic Editor, after I bought DB and found DarkEdit. It is much better. You can find it in the DarkEdit folder inside your DB folder. It has a standard Windows interface, better search and replace commands, label finders, bookmarks, etc...

I was going to suggest DarkEdit but that did not address your core problem.

Next try a different monitor.

Yes it did 640x480 before but I changed my comp (main unit only) to brand new yesterday and then 640 disappeared. I have had DBC for three years But now I like DarkEdit so much that I dont need 640x480 anymore

Sounds like your video card. Can that be it? Sometimes video cards won't allow certain display modes, correct?

Uhh... I meant I really make programs with DB. DB is not only hobby to me anymore.

I have made educational 3D-programs and simulations with DB and I sell them, thats simple. I dont yet use DBPro, cause its not stable. And of course I use many other programs in my work, such as modelling programs and image processing and text processing and so... and DB about 2...3 hours per day.

Another guess, but possible....

I do not keep up with the latest hardware, but I have heard that the XP desktop will not go below 800x600. I have not needed to install a resolution switcher on my XP laptop so I don't know if that is true. But if it is, like Inkybro has suggested maybe your motherboard has a new-fangled graphics card built in that does not support a 640x480 desktop? That probably makes no sense since it should have to run 640x480 apps, but who knows nowadays?

Not true, i have XP and my res goes as low as 256x whatever, lol... and in 2 colors too... It's all to do with the Vid card you have, and the drivers you have for them...

If I change screen adapter to 'Standard VGA', I get that 640x480 and 16 colors! I used to have 1600x1200 so 640x480 is terrible and even DB wont work in 16 colors!
