At 9am GMT this morning TGC will be competing in the Digital Shoreditch Hackathon which runs all this weekend.

Rick from TGC has called on the highly experienced AppGameKit evangelist baxslash to lead the TGC entry in this event.

It's a great event to showcase the power of AppGameKit and we'll be using it to create a cool app as our entry.

The event is based in the Google Campus in East London with 100 developers expected to take part.

We'll be posting images and updates in this thread so you can track our progress through the looong weekend!

We have decided on a game idea and Steve is now cracking on with his AppGameKit coding!

The brief set for us means we have to have a game that must work on Android and iOS (not a problem with AppGameKit ). The game has to focus around YOU and CHOCOLATE.

Our game idea is this;

You play as an airship that must travel from left to right across a purple cloudy Cadbury world. The main aim is to get as far as you can as you fly the ship guiding it up and down collecting chocolate treats. As you gain these the airship increases in speed and the chocolate is converted to pure joyful energy.

Small rocks and debris must be avoided because they can knock you back and slow you down.

While fairly simple, the game is achievable in the time frame, will be easy to pick up and play and will allow be competitive when we add OpenFeint at a later date.

What do you think guys?

Our working title is

Journey of Joy

Good luck guys! Go Steve, go Steve, go Steve!

I like the idea of chocolate flying around in space. Heheh! Here in Belgium we also have lots of chocolate, but it's not flying yet.

I see no sweat, or fear, or the threat of a whip looming over Baxslash. You can get so much more out of him Rick

Good luck with it, I sense a large number of accolades coming your way.

I wanna see the front of baxslash.

Some say he has no face, some say he codes with his belly button, all I know is we call him BAXSLASH.

Good luck with this, if anyone has a chance of a prize it will be baxslash

RickV, since you have the time (Assuming " \ " is doing the coding, and you are watching in awe), maybe you should walk among the competetors and spread the rumor that someone is using AppGameKit, so all their attempt will be futile!

Hope you guys win!

That's looking really good! I like the boost effect (as well as the chocolate). The ship's movement looks a bit sensitive but I'm guessing that'll be refined when it's time to polish.

"It's all down to my skill and the simplicity of AGK" but no mention of your fellow developers or, more importantly, me? BatVink, where are those whips? I need to teach Steve a little respect.

Seriously though, the game is looking fantastic and it's only been programmed over a weekend! I'm itching for a demo now.

Did they give you a more human head now, instead of the cyborg one?
Hehehhe, nice job, Steve! That game is coming along nicely!
But, there needs to be mooooooore chocolate, though.

I thought you got my sense of humour The Slayer... that makes me sad

1 Hour to go and thanks to Peter's graphics, Rick's great ideas and (of course) the many things I've learned from everyone here on the forums the game is looking awesome!

Just a little last minute polish!!

It's all randomly placed. I guess you have to make a choice what to go for...

Getting ready for the presentation!

The game is working and ready...

baxslash:
I would make it so 1 or more dots are removed when there is a piece of chocolate and have it placed a bit away from where those dots would be. That way the player can collect everything, but a bit of skill should be required. Shouldn't be hard to make a placement algorithm like that. The event is over now but if you are refining the game afterwards, do consider it.

Steve and I had to leave for our trains before the results were announced (they were 30-40 minutes late announcing them). I have since found out that we did not win, some kind of social post card editor won the big prize. That's all I know via Twitter, it's possible we might have won a smaller prize but I can't find a list just yet.

Steve did a great job over the weekend and proved that AppGameKit can do a great game in just two days. We'll post a full video of it Monday. Time for some R&R now!
