Hi all

Something very interesting happened to me not too long ago. I'm going to remain completely objective about it, and tell you all of the facts without making any assumptions. Interpret the following in any way you see fit, and perhaps share any similar expiriences you've had yourself.

I myself have had 2 "outer body expiriences", as I like to refer to them. I disregarded the first one because it wasn't as strong, and didn't really have that much evidence of being an outer body expirience (ski accident, I was unconscious for a minute). However, I just expirienced a far more compelling one a few days ago.

The setting

It was a sunny, warm day. I was hanging out with 4 friends next to a river. We were sitting on a ping-pong table listening to music, talking, and just enjoying the day. I, along with another friend, was standing in order to close the circle of discussion. Just opposite us was a big field with people playing games such as frisbee, badminton, etc.

What happened

Due to reasons I can not go into, all of my blood vessels relaxed. This caused my blood pressure to drop, and I slowly lost vision. It was actually quite scary for me, I didn't know what was going on at the time. My friends were holding fingers in front of my eyes and asking me how many I could see. I was completely blind, and soon after, I lost my hearing as well. First it sounded like I had cups placed over my ears, but then I lost all sound as well. Soon after my nerves failed to respond, and I was just... Gone.

My perspective

This can be split up into 3 sections.

The first thing I felt was that I was in a dream. You know the feeling just before you wake up? The last dream you had speeds through your mind, and you kind of know that you're about to wake up? I had exactly the same feeling. The whole day up until that moment sped through my head, and I had a feeling it was all a dream, and that I was about to wake up from it.

But I never did wake up. It scared me. I was just floating there, not really uncomfortably, but I couldn't wake up. And that's when it struck me. For some reason, I knew I was dead. It was absolute horror. I thought to myself: "I can't die now! I haven't completed my life yet!". Stranger yet, I was floating under a ping pong table, and could see myself and 4 friends faintly from the side. I tried controlling my movements, but failed to do so. I was somehow conscious of my existance, and could see things, but I had no control over where I was floating to. I remember seeing one of my friends throwing a frisbee off into the field. What was also really disturbing was that I felt so lonely. It wasn't like in a dream where you felt good. I felt like I was in the middle of an ocean by myself with nowhere to go, nothing to do, and no real control over where the ocean may take me. I then went through an entire chain of feelings, regret being one of the stronger ones.

The last part was rather strange. I didn't feel any "suction back to my body" or anything along the lines of that. It just happened. I was suddenly looking up at the sky, my vision returning slowly along with sounds and feeling. I could see and process things from the real world again, but couldn't move quite yet. My 4 friends were all gathered around me just like I saw them during my "dream", looking worried. I blinked my eyes, and slowly control returned to my mouth again. The first thing I said was "f***".

Friends perspective

They report I suddenly looked very worried, and said I couldn't see. They told me to count how many fingers they were holding, but I couldn't see them. Then I just passed out and fell sideways to the floor. The friend next to me tried pushing me back up, the others helped, but I was unconscious, so they layed me down on my back. A frisbee was thrown their direction, and a guy called out to them to throw it back. They said I was unconscious for about 30 seconds, and was breathing very fast. When I woke up, they were releived.

conclusion

So that's the entire story, fact by fact. It could have been a dream, but the fact that I saw my friend throw the frisbee during me not being there is disturbing. I'd like to think I did expirience an outer body expirience. One thing for sure is that I don't ever want to do that again. I never felt that scared and lonley in my life.

What's also interesting is that my perception of time was just gone. Time didn't matter at all during my "dream", it literally didn't exist. I don't know how else to say it, it just didn't exist.

Discuss.

Interesting.

The fact that you weren't sucked back into your body is very telling, you just woke up. Unless your conciousness can instantly transport you around, you must have been in your head the whole time. You probably imagined yourself lying there, so you could work out what was happening. The frisby could be a false memory. There's really no evidence that anything supernatural happened.

But anyway, cool story. Glad you're ok.

I think you might have dozed off and had one of those weird moments, where your brain shuts everything down, even when awake.

I've had one of those, at least one (probably had more but can't remember) - wake up in the middle of the night, but can't move. Our brain stops movement to our main limbs when we sleep, so we don't injure ourselves, sometimes our brains get confused I guess. It's fricken horrible though, like being set in concrete. I put this down to my blood sugar being too low, had a couple of toasted waffles and got back to sleep.

I have experienced the dead limb effect myself many times, mostly will happen when just waking in the middle of the night, the brain is awake but the body is switched off. Only once did it bother me, when not fully awake my brain decided to interpret this as 'something' sitting on me maliciously preventing me from moving, scared the crap out of me that did.

Its an OOBE or Out Of Body Experience your thinking of, this is not only experienced by dying people many associate the same thing with remote viewing, where some claim to have the ability to control where they go and was looked into (deeply) by Russia way back in the fifties.

I think you just fainted (you know why according to your OP)and were aware of things going on around you at some level.

Awesome! Its one of those threads.

Hi the comet.

I too have had out of body experiences. I experiences similar emotions and experiences as you which is interesting.

I'll tell you mine as I experienced them...
warning - long post

truly bazaar.

I left a lot of questions I'm yet to completely answer.

at that period of time I left my body a few times.
the few constants were paraylisis and buzzing in the head. incredibly real experience of the world around me.

check out hypnogogia. it explains it satisfactorily to anyone who has never experienced the reality of it. - I'm not so sure about anything.

Have you been to the doctor yet? You may have low blood pressure, diabetes, could've been dehydrated. Either way, scoot off to the doctor and get some blood tests.

My explanation for your experience is it was just a dream. You may have been passed out, but your brain is still hearing people talking about frizbees and the like, processing it into images in your head. The more you talk about it now, the more it'll create new explanations, images and thoughts to fill in the blanks, until what you think you remember is actually completely different from what you actually experienced.

The amazingness of the brain. It was put in your head to confuse and trick you.

I blacked out due to loss of blood in the head, that's all there is to it. I'm not sure what the brain does in that situation, is it still active? I've heard loads of stories from other people that have blacked out due to low blood pressure, and a lot of them report similar stories. Maybe the brain is just filling in the blanks?

Either way, why is it that your perception of time is gone if the brain is still processing stuff? That can't be explained. You should expirience time just as if you were awake. Even dreams give you some idea of how much time passed, but this... Time was just gone...

I've never expirienced anything like that before, but I've heard stories about it. Scary stuff, I can imagine! I can tell you though that what I expirienced wasn't that.

@ Kezzla

I'll be sure to read your story when I get on the train. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for your concern. My body is in good condition, and my blood pressure is fine. In fact, the doctor told me I had really healthy blood. I am only 18 years old, so I think any major illness can be ruled out for the time being. I've never had any problems with blood pressure, and probably never will again as long as I, shall we say, don't knowingly destabilise it.

It's an interesting topic, but all that needs to be said is, the mind can play tricks on you. It can make you think and believe anything. Divine revelations anyone?

Ah well time has a real energy, but the way humans think of it as past, present, and future is human, artistic licensing. Some African tribes treat time as uphill, and downhill, and others as backwards, and forwards reversed. Forwards is backwards in time, and backwards is forwards in time.

The mind is a fascinating entity. There are some psychological explanations for out of body experiences out there, generally I'm scientifically minded so I generally avoid coming to spiritual conclusions unless I'm able to back them up. The mind is perfectly capable of creating hallucinations and they can feel very real. You don't have to be on mind altering drugs for it to happen but there's others ways your mind might be altered. I think Fallout's point about seeing a doctor is a fair one - also I found had high blood pressure when I was 17 because unknowingly, I was pretty stressed. I was having palpatations, which is what prompted me to go see the doctor in the first place. Although I was a healthy 17 year old and would not likely be suffering from major health issues, but they did tests anyway.

As for dehydration, well just look at the colour of your pee. If it's darker than normal, then you're dehydrated.

I'm sure there's a logical explanation that has nothing to do with me chanting "ESRUC TEMOC! ESRUC TEMOC!" over and over while stabbing a small doll in the chest with a skewer. That was pure coincidence, it had no effect the 20 previous attempts.

I couldn't agree more. It's astonishing how much detail your brain actually just assumes. That's why those tricks work where you place a banana on one side of the stage and tell everyone that a huge gorilla is going to steal it, but no one sees the gorilla because they're too busy focusing on the person talking.

Hm those stories sound interesting... and very scary! The only experience of mine that I can think of that comes close to this (but is somewhat a different topic) was an accident I had some years ago.

I had overslept, and was late for school. Back then it took me 5 - 10 minutes to get to school by bike, so obviously I had fallen out of bed at the time school was about to start and was dressed and out of the door instantly Along the way there is a part where I am driving on the street, but have to get onto the sidewalk, and somehow the front wheel of the bike must've slid away sideways on the curb (I think it had rained that morning) which made me crash into the street with my face first in some way or another. But all I remember is that I was on my way to school (excluding the place where it happened) and the next thing is me "waking up" to see 2 concerned women looking at me. My mind was still very dizzy, as it had trouble "getting back online" so to speak. All I could think was "I need to get to school! What the heck is this? And why is my bike lying over there on the street? Oh hey, why are my hands all bruised and my face kinda hurts now" ... I then slowly realized what had happened and had to sit down because I was feeling dizzy/shaky and they had called an ambulance already anyways (an accidental alliteration appeared... awesome ). I spent a few days in hospital because I had a concussion. I think the thing about the memory loss of the incident is called "Post-traumatic amnesia" or maybe that is something more severe, I don't really rememeber. I just know it was pretty scary to not remember what happened there. I still to this day do not remember the accident itself. My theory is that I was abducted by aliens.

Edit: Also, it is weird, but I was already standing again by the time I became aware of my surroundings again. It's interesting how my brain first activated the 'autopilot' in case there was any danger, and then told me "okay, let's restart the system now... you handle this from here"

The weirdest thing I've had is when I realised I was dreaming and tried to wake up and move, but couldn't, but it wasn't sleep paralysis, it was because I was dreaming that I was having a dream, so as soon as I realised that the fact I couldn't move was also a dream I woke up...

I too have had a similar experience.

Once, I was watching a movie in a small room with the lights off. For reasons I too cannot get into, I started focusing less on the movie and more on, well, everything. I was still taking in everything from the movie but it seemed to have blended in with the rest of the environment and I took it all in at once. For a while I felt like I was outside my body, or rather, like my body didn't exist at all and I was an amorphous disembodied mind floating about in space. It was pretty crazy for sure. I drew a picture afterwards, I haven't drawn a picture in years, but it's pretty awesome. I might upload it if I can find it.
