i would like to see a darkBASIC 1.14 some time in the future, the
darkBASIC classic engine is still faster on the weaker pcs,
The only thing darkBASIC classic is missing is object bending like in DX 9 models.
Cheers

There is DB and DBPro. they are no longer making DB, it is at its final stage EVER. so if you want better, get PRO, but from what i heard, it is still quite buggy. but there still updating it

Two words, moo.

Yeah, Pro is full of bugs, but, it is still much better than DBC IMO...

Oh well... each to their own...

Hope I Helped...

DBP is fairly stable, and I can honostly say that I've never had a bug for unknown reasons.(I've owned it for about 6 months).

-Faster than db
-still being updated
-fairly stable(I run on xp pro)

No reason to be concerned about too many bugs right now.

I whole-heartedly agree yellow, it's just that some of the bugs that are in DBPro atm, are kind of annoying, like no .3DS etc...

But other than that, it is DEFINATLY better than DBC...

And the conversion to DBPro from DBC isn't as hard as it seems, almost all of the same commands exist in DBPro that do in DBC, so you don't have to worry about your programs not working... and those commands that don't work, there is ussually an esy alternative...

Actually conversion of large programs can be quite daunting. I tried converting my over 5000 line RTS game, and failed. I bought DB Pro, only to realize I can't get my program converted. Oh well, I will make my sequel with it.

These are the reasons it wouldn't work:
-DBPro takes forever to create objects, can't do it fast enough in the middle of the game.
-Part of my code just won't work, still working on that...
-It automatically blends my images, and that screws up some things...

I really want to convert it though, maybe some day. Maybe if I learn about memblocks. I think I will try them.

Hmmm, don't know what's up with that... but, in DBC, whenever i made objects, it took longer (not by a huge amount, but noticable still) than DBPro...

Mabey a glitch or a bug, lol...

To convert your code, the best way to do it is to look at all the commands that have been removed, then do a search through your source for those commands, then replace them with the appropriate new commands...

That was how i did it anyway...

Hope I Helped...

This whole 1.13 / Pro thing kinda makes me think back to the Amiga AMOS period. I think like with the classic AMOS, 1.13 for somewhat older machines who want top speed games 1.13 already is at the top of it's game.

I take JessTicular's word for it that Pro is better, however I still have a somewhat slow machine for it. So it's kinda like with AMOS when I hopped from my Amiga 1000/500 to an Amiga 1200 I will hop over to Pro when I have a faster PC.

There are also sources out there that are still a tad to slow on this machine, like doom-clone kinda stuff, so I'm thinking of hopping over somewhere next year. But like I said, up till now 1.13 enhanced has been perfect for me. It's giving me a lot of fun and power to play with. So when the time is there I'm hopping over.

I don't see why or in what department they should update 1.13 to a 1.14 or whatever. It's kicking ass as it is. (pardon my french there.)

I got DBC in autumn 2000 and I changed to DBPro in spring 2002. I really tried to make some large progs with DBPro but last summer I had to go back to DBC, because two of my projects cant be done in DBPro. I have spent well over 1000 hours on these projects and they have to be ready after couple of months. As someone of you know I try to earn with my DB projects

Though DBPRo have 50% more speed but I cant use it before its stable.

However one smaller project seems to act far better in DBPro than in DBC. So, maybe next spring I'll be back to DBPro

@Foonman305:

Also get all your latest vid drivers, and make sure you have DirectX 9.0b cos 9.0 and 9.0b are different and sometimes you need the latest for it to work...

@Bolt
that prob sounded like you have some pre 4.1 patch (or totally unpatched) DBpro. Did that especially if you had a radeon card. It's been fixed now. for good. (new gfx card drivers helped me before those patches, though)

Never try run any DBc Code in DBpro. Just get over it, and rewrite. Now you can use other methods that weren't possible before. So, you're better off learning and rewriting.

Also, there's the extra flag ",1" in the load image command that stops the blending/smoothing... if that's what you meant.

there you go. all your problems solved. ;D

I thought I saw a post a couple days ago that said DBP was in compusa.

Might wanna try a to search a compusa website, and then call to see if they have it in stock.

Dark Basic Pro is available on the CompUSA website and in store it seems.

That leads me to a quandry. I own Dark Basic Classic but much rather purchase something immediatly even if I have to pay a little more do that means I will probably forgo my upgrade pricing to purchase the instore item.
