hello everyone! i was just wondering if you can convert mp3s to .mid to use in games. the reason for that is because when i downloaded
the timesplitters music i really wanted to use it in my distant future spectacular computer game. (not too distant. just until i work out how to code better. alot better).i was also wondering if anyone knows were i could get some .mid files to use in games (probably distant ones too)

thanks if you can help
if you can't then bugger off!
Axel

ok... Yes, you can, but no, it's not really worth it...

You can get plenty of converters from all over the web, try WebAttack.
But, the resulting *.mid file is ussually shocking quality and sounds nothing like the original...

You must remember, *.mid files are simply a set of instructions, nothing more, no sound data is contained wihtin them at all...

These sets of instructions simply comunicate wiht the native MIDI database which is on the computer, and tells it which sounds to play out of a set few...

Therefore, getting perfect bass sounds, or really good guitar riffs in *.mid files after being converted from mp3 is virtually impossible...

BUT! don't hold me to my words, because i know that there are other people out there on these forums with MUCH more knoledge on sounds and media than me, so i could be wrong.. let's wait and see...

Hope I Helped...

mp3 is supported by dark basic anyway so you could just use the original file unconverted.

JessTicular is right, i've tried it and almost all quality is lost! it would even be better to compose your own midi file, thats what i do for a giant list of video game music using the midi format check out: JessTicular: http://www.vgmusic.com/ they've got enuff stuff
