Space, the final frontier.
These are the voyages of The Game Creators.
It's 11 year mission, to explore strange new code.
To seek out new platforms and new compilations.
To boldly go where no programmer has gone before!

With today being the 46th anniversary of Star Trek TOS, this two month competition is all about Space Exploration! Anything goes as long as it has something to do with space, sci-fi ships, designs, planets, asteroids, aliens, etc..anything goes!

I was already working on several space models for a game we are making.
Here is a quick screen shot for the one I will submit.
It was originally just a hydroponics station but for this compo it's also a distillery where they make the green whiskey that Scotty drank.

@Stab in the Dark software

Am i correct in assuming that you use Sketchup?

Very nice first model by the way. Thats the way to raise the bar and set the standards! haha.

Congrats on your new shiny badge mate!

Unfamillia,
No, I use Wings 3D. I use a modded version of it called Manifold Lab which is free at this link

http://s331378245.onlinehome.us/manifoldlab_releases/

It's basically Wings 3D with a bunch of extra plugins added.
I found Wings 3D has less of a learning curve than some of the other software.
I still had to watch a lot of youtube videos to learn some not so well know tricks.
Thanks for the comments on the model. I'm sure somebody else will submit something better.
My luck I was already working on this for a separate project but I still have work to do on it.

As soon as i saw this competition, i thought.....ROBOT!!

So, i started working on my Mega Mech!

He is still in the the very early stages and has no texture. I have given him some materials to give you an idea of what the finished model will look like, but it may all still change.

Anyway, i introduce...MegaMech...

Let me know what you think.

I can already tell this compo is going to be a good one.

Quote: "What are you looking for a single model? screen shots of a level? or what?"

Anything sci-fi, you can do a single model, a scene or screenshot. W/e you want.

Actually looks more Romulan then Vulcan. I always saw them as having a more prominent forehead and cheek bones.

Great stuff Neo!

I have edited my MegaMech and am calling this complete.

Main Render

Close up of the guns

Close up of the front

I could improve upon it through textures and mapping, but, it would have taken me longer than the two months to unwrap this thing!

EDIT - I have attached a full resolution image of the 'main render' or those image junkies out there (me included)

Ok, I guess with it being the 46th Anniversary of Star Trek; i should really be modelling something Star Trek related!

I enjoyed making my Mega Mech, but, i have made a start on something else......

First one to tell me exactly what it is wins (if i can do it and actually have the time to do it) a fully modeled, rigged and animated version of this for FPSC.

Obviously it is missing a vital part, but, this is still WIP.

Thats it Josh! Type 1 is the 'Vital bit' that's missing. I am working on that now. Then i will join the two together and hopefully 'stun' everyone with how amazing the render is......

sorry, i know it was a poor joke....

Anyway, back to modeling

Unfamillia

EDIT - Well, i decided to not sleep and to continue with this! Silly i know, but, i am happy with the result.

Low orbit docking station.

Needs a lot more texture detail on the dock and the ship.

Since this runs till 26 Oct I will probably get into more of these then pick one to polish up for final entry.

Thanks. I was going to make the newer, smoother phaser, but, i prefer the older style! Much more fun to model!

But, after seeing all these ships, i want to model one those now instead! They look fun to make!

Star Class Frigate.

Procedural textures for hull plates and windows, 50% distribution mix which needs some mapping on spherical objects but it works fine for this shot.

Reckon I am done with ships moving onto Alien Planets next ....my favorite.

Rather than create a new post I will just put it into this one.

Alien Outpost.

Hi Guys. I'm not here to enter the competition.

But as you guys know, I love Star Trek, and wanted to let you guys check out a few new shots from My FPSC "TOS Starship kit".
Sickbay is finally Done.

Made some major changes to the Bridge. And, am in the process of animating the consoles, and main viewscreen, with Bond's animated shader.

Hope you like 'em. Later my friends.

Incredible work! And in FPSC. You still have the Next Gen media too? As I've said before, you can legally release these as long as you take out all the symbols associated with the show.

Looking forward to seeing more.

Yep! The Star Trek "TNG Starship kit" is also still in the works. Still alot to do on that one.

I'm jumping between 2 projects right now, but I do have the TOS Transporter room, and Engineering built, but not textured. Blackfox recently did an awesome transporter effect that I would like to incorporate along side of Conjured's multi-pad trasporter system from the sci-fi community pack.

All the hallways, furniture, and some of the props are done.

As far as release, I'm not nearly there yet. And I won't address that until It's all done, and all the legalities are proper, More than likely it will be released on an alternate site. These babies are huge!

The 1st kit, TOS, Will have everything you need to build every deck of a Consitution class Starship. Including the swimming pool, and Bowling ally. I'm leaving no stone unturned.

If poeple are interested in this project, I can start a WIP thread.

Anyway, Great job everyone, all the entries look great! And good luck!

His scene is highly detailed and atmospheric, telling a very alien story. I just love looking at this image.

Best Model: unfamillia
I can't find any flaws with this Phaser Type II model. The materials he used in rendering made his modeling stand out.

Best Texture: Willow

Thanks and congratulations to Unfamilia and Willow, well deserved.

The Alien Outpost was inspired by a Star Trek episode from the original series which used a matte painting background of an alien planet with city (cant for the life of me remember which episode it was). It stuck in my mind for many years and actually inspired many of the alien planet paintings I have done in the past before moving onto computer generated images.

Thanks again, its great how this competition seems to get better and better and is attracting so many people to show their skills and artistic talent, we all gain from each others enthusiasm, imagination and encouragement.

Well done to all the entrants.
