New Company Logo:
This logo will be only used in our commerical games and not our office software. Were currently working on the sound fx for the animated version but here is the still version. Please give a big hand to Vashon on eof our animators for making this fantastic logo.

Make sure the letters UOK aren't on top of software
What does it stand for though? I don't see it anywhere.

* I'm good thanks software.
* I'd agree with reducing the bevel effect, especially on "software".
* I don't like the colouring: it's very grimy and unattractive, and reproduction will be a nightmare when you want to put it on different backgrounds and at different scales -- and say you wanted to print t-shirts it would be really expensive. The repeated texture looks lazy too.
* The "U" and "O" seem to "bite" through the frame around "software" but the "K" sits on top. Whatever effect you're going for it should be consistent.
* I think bars and frames can be good to highlight things but I don't like the way you use both in such a small space. I'd recommend removing the frame around "software" or removing the top and bottom bars and making the frame stand out more.

Shh... you're pretty.

Maybe not using the same textures for the upper AND lower bar, especially when it's so incredibly easy to notice, with the "rust" to the left.

Actually, the whole "rust" part of it to the left just looks bad in my honest opinion, as it doesnt add anything at all, other than taking my eyes attentions away from the logo itself..

I've mocked up some very simple examples of what you could do with it. I think these letters look really good with a serif font.

We can of course have a more detailed version of the design for certain purposes if we like. Here is a selected design with some basic filters applied:

I agree, I think a serif font would really work with the design choices. I think a couple of changes here and there would make it look good, unfortunately I am a terrible artist, so I won't try to offer any kind of in depth feedback.

And I guess, welcome back. Nobody can bear to leave this place.

[edit]
No offense, don't like those added filters Obese. Okay, the top right filter isn't so bad.

I think you should really consider hiring someone to do this. To be honest there a a great deal of issues with the logo from a designer point of view. What is the purpose, what identity does it portray? Remember that a logo is the forefront a companies identity and needs to reflect upon it. I know there are many graphic designers, logo designers, illustrators, etc. on this forum, including myself. I highly recommend you try to source one of them for this. I also know a great deal of students who are looking for portfolio work and also show some real talent. So if money is an issue that is a great route to take. These are my five cents.

That logo looks more suited for Wrestling or Boxing than software.

The bevel is too clean. Rust the edges a little, chip it, crumble bits of it. Give it some character!

It doesn't say games to me. It doesn't really say anything. It's not descriptive, clear, usable in many formats, memorable, etc. This is a good starter article on logo design.

It looks like a logo I would have made when I was 13, honestly. You'd be better off with a flat font than that, games or otherwise.

I personally liked the new icon and I asked a gfx design company their thoughts; they said it was a good fit for video game software. As for the suggestions above, I’ve used a lot of those suggested before in the past and they just don’t look professional, they look too kiddy. Basically if I can make what you have suggested, it’s likely not good. I’m no expert or nor am I an artist but the people I talked to about it are experts. So I honestly have to take their advice over the suggested above.

I of course made the post to show off Vashon’s work not looking for suggestions but I welcome the feedback as I’m sure Vashon welcomed it as well. At the end of the day though, we have to take the advice of the gfx company and go by their suggestions/feedback. At the end of the day as they suggested it’s about what I like as the business owner and what is marketable to the public as a brand able name.

which "gfx design company" and "experts" thought it was good so i know to never to enlist their opinions, please?

no offense, Vashon, whoever you are, but it's, let's say, "un-finished" and needs plenty of work prior use on commercial products.

OP, no offense intended but this forum is fraught with the loosest use of "commercial", "company" and similar "professional" terminology/classification so i don't know who the real professionals are, save a few.

Yet another thread where old_School announces something, quite clearly looking for feedback, then craps over everyone's constructive criticism and comments when they inevitably don't match what he thinks he already knows.

I'm going to lock this because he obviously doesn't understand the purpose of an internet forum, and it's just going to get flamed. If you post something you've made here, expect people to critique and give their honest opinions.

A texture, and some filter effects do not make a professional logo.

Seriously, that's the sort of work I'd expect from someone on their first day of graphic design school. It's not the work of a professional, for you to come here and pass it off as a pro's work is a joke - you clearly underestimate this community, or over-estimate yourself, one or the two.

If someone posted that in 2D chat, we'd all most likely give some advice and support, say it was pretty good. When you come here and claim that is a professionals work, well it detracts from the word professional. But then professionals have already said it's professional yes?, so who are we to offer critique. I would say that visible bevel filter defects are pretty unprofessional.

Health, Ammo, and bacon and eggs!
