HEY!

So I'm working on a little project that involves modifying a printer to drill instead of shoot ink. So I have the printer head and I have a 12v drill motor to attach to it, but I need some mechanism to make it move up and down on the printer head.

So my main idea is to have a servo orientated such that it faces downwards (with the spinny bit making a horizontal circle), and have that turn a spindle (or something with a thread) to screw the drill up or down. But I'm not sure how I could build such a mechanism with some strength. (I'm not good at this part of building things)

Anyone got any better ideas/a good way to implement my idea?

Cheerio!

If pots and pans were "if"s and "and"s there would be no work for programmer's hands...

I'm not very familiar with this sort of stuff, but maybe something here will help you: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linear_actuator

[EDIT]
Apparently drill presses use something like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rack_and_pinion

Ah, "a linear actuator"! I didn't know what it was called I'm going to try to use something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujzz018hpNI

It should be cheap and easy

Thanks alot for that!
