Hi all, I'm in the north East USA, Superstorm Sandy is clobbering us hard. Millions of folks without power, Some areas are totally under water. Want to wish any, and all members living in the area good luck. Stay inside, As you can no longer evacuate. Stay safe, and God bless!

All the footage and pictures I've seen look far worse than anyone here expected it to be. Can't imagine what's happening from all the way over here across the pond but wishing everyone affected the best of luck, wherever you are.

North east? are we talking northern new england? Massachussetts? because i dont remember any hurricanes that went that far north before.

also why do people call sandy a frankinstein hurricane? frankinhurricane and stuff. The internet and facebook dubbed it that. and the conspiracy theorists say it is an artaficially created hurricane. i havent looked into it but i cant see how a hurricane can be artaficially created at all.

Hang in there Dale. SAR units here have been keeping up with the issued alerts, and even us members on the West Coast may end up getting deployed your way.

Weather is really kicking our ass the last few years. It's almost like we learn nothing, don't prepare and don't expect these things to happen to us, maybe Sandy will be the storm that people actually learn from.

I got a fever, and the only prescription, is more memes.

I hope all of you guys are okay and make it through. I heard that Sandy claimed a few lives, I'm sorry to hear that. May they rest in peace.

Certainly dwarfs Britain's weather complaints. I hope everyone is OK too - but it seems there've been deaths already and that's before the combined effects of snow, ice and power failures have really kicked in.

Looks horribly like The Day After Tomorrow is actually today.

Holy crap, you're right Josh! We did get snow last night! Maybe a quarter inch or less in columbus. Good thing I put my car in the garage last night.

Oh yea, and it was 80 degrees just a few days ago. Hence the age old phrase, "Don't like the weather in ohio? Wait a few hours".

Thanks my friends! it's a little past noon. The power just came back on here in my area in PA. Which is really surprising, but great! Alot of folks are not as lucky. Over 60,000 still without power all around us. New York and New Jersey are trashed. Trees are down all around us, lots of damage from the winds that reached 72 mph. here in PA. Our local power company brought in 1,600 additional line workers from other states out west, and even more search and rescue workers. We are still under a state of emergency, and clean up will no doubt take weeks.

Our hearts go out to those families who lost loved ones, and those that still have a ways to go before things are back to normal.

Take care all, and thanks!

As Hurricane Sandy closed in on the Northeast, it converged with a cold-weather system that turned it into a monstrous hybrid of rain, high wind - and even snow.
Just before it made landfall at 8 p.m. near Atlantic City, N.J., forecasters stripped Sandy of hurricane status, but the distinction was purely technical, based on its shape and internal temperature.

While the hurricane's 80 mph winds registered as only a Category 1 on a scale of five, it packed the lowest barometric pressure on record in the Northeast, giving it terrific energy to push water inland.

i am in Erie PA and its been wet and very windy but nothing compared to those further South. Yes it is a sad fact that with any disaster the loonies come out of the woodwork looking to blame someone personally for this, usually to gain political points.

This thing barged its way North and Canada was affected badly too.

I dunno, it has gotten a bit nippy this week. I've had to put the heating on!

Ah, try Colorado, been windy, calm, overcast, mostly clear, hailed, and rained all on the same day. That day was interesting...

Luckily, here in the mountains, the only real weather risk is a forest fire. That's a large risk, but likely so much better than most other places in the world. I love Colorado.

My prayers go out to all ye northeasterlies.

It was worse than expected here in NYC. With The Battery hitting a new record flood of 13.88 Ft above normal. The south ferry subway station is filled track to ceiling with water. Power gone out in all of lower Manhattan. Transfers exploding and a downed crane in a 80 story sky scraper that was under construction.

Sandy was not playing around...

I was talking with people on Long Island, apparently they weren't that badly hit. Power was still going, and the worst thing she was aware of was her boyfriend's mum getting a concussion from a fallen tree.

Still, it's nice to see that America's learned a lot from previous hurricanes, and prepared so much for this one hitting. Glad to see it wasn't another Katrina.

The landfall of the storm was a few miles South of me, on the Jersey coast. Some coastal towns are virtually destroyed. I think we were remarkably well-prepared under the circumstances. For one thing, being warned - and in no uncertain terms - well in advance was key, and there were plenty of evacuations that proved quite wise. The damage to property and infrastructure is enormous, but the death toll was surprisingly low. I'm old enough to remember the times before the development of weather satellites (or any satellites), and being surprised by a hurricane was not fun.

good thing. This hurricane was hyped by the media to make it seem like another katrina but i guess it wasnt nearly as bad.

Just wondering btw. i know in last 10 years there were a lot of bad hurricanes in the southeast of US but were there always hurricanes this bad or just the last 10 years. because i think by now living in a hurricane zone there would be some efforts to build infrustructure that would withstand hurricanes, at least stuff like massivley rasing ground level or creating massive drains/aqeducts to keep the flooding down. Many countries who live in zones prone to natural disasters, take measures against them.

btw one of the things about russia (where i live) other than the cold (which under certain extremes seriosly damages infrustructure over time also the reason why roads in russia are the worst in the world) its pretty much the worlds safest area from natural disasters. The bad side of this when very rarely high speed wind storms/tornadoes hit the government is never prepaired because it almost never happens. there are a lot more artaficial disasters in russia than natural ones like dams bursting and nuclear reactors exploding.

Reminds me of the native American sitting on a hill overlooking San Francisco watching them rebuild after a huge earthquake...he simply smiled.

It could have been much worse. The difference is, this time around, we have people in charge of such things that actually, you know, are qualified

Keep in mind that some of the places hit, like NY, doesn't exactly see weather like that very often. Whats happened there in the past few years, hurricane, tornado, is very unusual.

And the rain still hasn't stopped drizzling here! Ugh! I hope I don't have to do PT outside tomorrow morning.

Hey Dale,

Hope all is good and everyone is safe!! My prayers are with anyone who has lost a loved one in the storm. Being in MN and not getting nearly enough time to read the news, what's the situation there like? Only thing I heard was that the government managed to get polling booths up in the worst hit areas... Nothing much else.

Stay safe and good luck!

Cheers,
Anayar
