Spaced, yes, definitely worth watching (for Simon Pegg and Nick Frost). It can have its awkward moments there, but a very good comedy. My friend literally lives around from the corner of that house.
I would also second Black Books (I think it's on Netflix), for me Dylan Moran (you'll remember him from Shaun of the Dead) and Bill Bailey are very funny people, putting them together in one show is worth it. But I think it's one of those shows you can only watch the first 2 series of before the jokes get predictable.
There's some good comedies from the 90's and early 2000's:
Royle Family is good, I wouldn't say it's an awkward comedy, but it's worth watching, it's pretty subtle, but still pretty funny.
Then there's Vicar of Dibley, if you're going to venture into things like Father Ted then I wouldn't miss VoD, personally I always preferred Vicar of Dibley. Both are comedies related to Church, and even as somebody who's not a Christian, I enjoyed them. VoD is a pretty silly comedy, but does a good job making fun of small village Church communities, but in a loving way.
I quite liked Absolutely Fabulous, Joanna Lumley can be quite funny.
All of them are British sitcoms that kind of reflect real life, yet exaggerated.
If you don't already our comedy quiz shows are worth it, not sure if you've got anything similar in the US & Canada, but they tend to be just panels of comedians and sometimes politicians, journalists, well educated folks and celebrities, depending on the show and they can be really funny shows. The comedians who tend to circulate these shows tend to be very funny like Bill Bailey, David Mitchell, Robert Webb, Greg Davies, Ross Noble, Milton Jones and various other stand up comedians.
