Any recent indecencies involving an excess of alcohol and cheese? Overuse of the smilie counts as public intoxication, I believe.

I would say - mail a mod about it - works better - doesnt really matter which mod as you can probably find the "culprit" from there

Probably...this:

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=201320&b=3&msg=2409649#m2409649
It was inappropriate and obviously a mod thought so...

Don't mods e-mail the user when they slap/ban them?

Not to my knowledge, or at least not as a regular occurrence.

In theory it shouldn't be too hard to write a script that automatically sends that user an e-mail when a mod takes such an action. Would avoid some confusion.

oooo, my bad. I can see how that may have slightly crossed a line. Guess I thought I was on FB or something.

You're slapped I think only for another few days.

Hey that's not a bad idea, actually. That can be my next forum addition.

It can be a thin line and in your view you may just have stuck your toe over it, but for others it may seem too much. It isn't so much what was said but who it was addressed to, apologise and move on.

Not much more you can do than that.

That's where the problem lies, the poster may think it's a trivial thing and not think much of it, whereas to others it may be offensive. The main reason we come down on what seems like small things is to stop arguments starting before they begin about what a poster has written, what it meant, who's offended, why they should be offended when it was nothing, "nothing to you may be but I didn't like it", "nothing wrong with it, get over it"... blah, blah.

See where I'm going with this...

So the problem isn't what I said, but who it was said to? What makes that person so special over the rest of the forum?

You could've just edited the post (like it was anyway) and left it at that. I think I've been around long enough that people know I wouldn't have repeated it after seeing it removed. And I don't have a history of intentionally offending forum members.

I also think an email notification is a good idea. Shouldn't be but an extra line or two of code.

I agree with what has been said here. I do feel that mods take over action sometimes. Also I feel that they are a bit sensitive, if you will, at the risk that certain people may get offended. This one person special over another thing here and not doing things intentionally, being reasons people get moderated, both things I have been moderated for myself (or at least close to getting moderated over)

Another thing, like mentioned, he said he has been here for a very long time and isn't a repeat offender of these AUP violations, is a very trustworthy member overall, and simply editing would have been fine.

Not trying to get anything going here, just adding my 2 cents worth, and really, a bit of constructive feedback, if the mods would be willing to take it.

This discussion is pointless.

No-one but the original participants knows what the issue was (since the offending statement has been deleted) so anyone reading this thread will be totally baffled as I am. Why not simply communicate with each other by email and not clutter the forum?

I would like to be clear on this, my suggestion as to it being who you were addressing is my own guess at why you were slapped, I am not a mod and did not make the decision. You obviously have no idea what I am talking about or you would get it, lets just say it was ungentlemanly (big hint).

If it makes you feel any better I agree it would have been enough to simply edit the post and I think a slap was harsh, but again its not been my call.

In fact its actually led to what the mods say they were trying to avoid.

I strongly recommend mailing the mod with this issue - instead of taking the discussion here..

Mod decisions are not up for discussion. (edit) Let me clarify, with certain rules there can't be any grey area, there's only black and white.

Next time email a mod, because 99% of the time, the mod who slapped or banned you also put down why they did it in some form or another. Besides, your slap will be lifted at around 2 pm today.
