Has anyone here played Planetside 2? It's a free-to-play MMOFPS that was just released yesterday. I'm with the Terran Republic on the Waterson server. My name is LordHerakles. I'm still looking for an outfit.

Played a bit of the beta, and I don't really have any desire of playing the full release. I got bored with it after a few weeks.

Cheesehead for life.

I love Planetside 2. In my opinion the scale of the game is the best feature, the battles are some of the largest I've ever seen. The problem is the terrible performance issues.. More than just a powerful video card, it needs a powerful CPU to run and I'm on a gaming laptop so I don't have the best CPU. It tends to lag and stutter, so it can be unplayable with big battles. When it is playable, however, it's great

How do you think an AMD 640 x4 @3.0ghz and a HD6850 would cope?

I have a GTX570 and an AMD Phenom II X4 and the game runs pretty good for me. My FPS drops a bit when I'm in the larger battles, but it never gets so bad that it affects my ability to play.

Anyone want to start a TGC outfit?

Downloaded it today and have been playing for a little while now.

Verdict: I can see myself sinking a lot of time into this game. I spent about 10-15 minutes alone just sniping and giving grief at this tiny little outpost in the middle of nowhere. Just me and my sniper rifle, raising hell for this poor engineer. So much fun.

I'm Vanu Sovereignty(VS) on Sol Tech(Eastern US) if anyone wants to meet up or start an outfit or whatever.

Loved planetside 1, one of the best games Ive ever played. Was excited for planetside next back in 2009/10. played the planetside 2 beta back in July just not impressd. Its way too much like COD/BF3 and nothing like the first, no team work, no inventory system, one man tank armies etc totally mindless.

I'm having difficulty finding an outfit, and you can only go so far in this game playing with random people the game puts you with. It's much better to play with people you know and can communicate with.

If anyone is interested in playing with me, I'm on the Waterson server on the Terran republic side. I mostly play as the Heavy Assault class, but I also use the Infiltrator and Light Assault classes from time to time. My name is LordHerakles, and I'm currently logged in as of the time of this post. You can invite me to join a squad, add me as a friend, or even eventually start an outfit if all goes well.

I think it's obvious I'm getting really frustrated at this point. I really want to play more of this game, but one can't do so optimally without being in an outfit. And the only outfits I've found are either excessively hardcore about the game or are not serious enough. I want to have fun, and since I have no friends in real life that play video games, that leaves me in a bit of a rut.

Team work has more to do with the people playing the game, rather than the game itself. The gameplay is definitely like Call of Duty or any other modern FPS. I would rather it be more like Quake or Unreal Tournament in terms of the actual FPS gameplay, but none of those games are as massive as Planetside. I can log in one night and be fighting in a huge battle, and then log in the next morning and that battle is still going on. Having generic modern shooter gameplay is an acceptable caveat for the sheer size of Planetside 2.

Bear in mind, I never played Planetside 1, so my experience is solely from the new game.

I might go and create a new character on Waterson for Terran Republic, might as well have a good variety of characters for different outfits. If I do create a character on Waterson, I'll add you for sure.(Note: I don't have a mic for PC yet)

I've been looking for a good outfit too, though there doesn't seem to be any VS outfits on SolTech. Eternal Vigilance seems like a decent outfit, though they haven't decided on which server to join for launch(looks like they had one for beta but want to change it). I'm gonna wait and see which server they're on, then apply to join their guild/outfit/thing.

I can see why you would... But I dont :/ I like the gameplay - A lot, but then I also like CoD and BF3...

And as of now - and in beta, isnt it fully understandable teamplay wasnnt/isnt great?

this is 3 days after launch - there's a LOOOOOOT of newbies
i'm sure the beta was also FUUULLLL of newbies - this will pass with time. And you also pretty much need to be in a squad - and activly play with them <there is VOIP and whatnot> - or be in aoutfit....

What people have to understand is that Planetside 2 really doesn't seem to be designed for someone who is alone. The best gameplay is when you are in a large army platoon. I've been in battles with ps2 livestreams, and in my opinion that's when there's the best gameplay - when you have large organized battles. Sure you can drive around a tank by yourself, but it feels so much more fun when you have 60 other people around you doing the same thing! If you can't find a platoon any other way, I'd recommend you find some livestreams because those are guaranteed to be fun.

Thenerd: It's VERY easy to just end up in a random convoy somewhere.

In other words: wether you are alone or not - you will never really be alone, myself find it very enjoyable either way.

But i do recommend people to join squads (insert for random)

Awesome. Anyone playing TR on the Waterson server, feel free to add me as a friend and invite me to join a squad. And don't worry about the mic, I just use a cheap headset and it works fine.

Interesting, I'll give that a try when that happens. If I like it better than #2, perhaps I will switch to it.

The problem there is that most people don't communicate as well with random people as they do with friends. You generally don't get mic communication that way, sometimes not even text communication. You may as well not even bother joining a squad like that.

I think I added you already, I'll check once I get back on Waterson(was on SolTech for a while, leveling up my VS character).

Usually when I join a squad - it's some form of... teamwork - I usually find a squadmate - or several and stick to them - there's not a lot of communication needed for that

lots and lots of squadleaders DO use mics - and if they do, I dont need to use it aswell, I just do what he says - and type if he says something I dont agree with.. so to say

It's all a matter of how you play - you dont need a mic to enjoy this game - you dont even need to join a squad to enjoy it - but it does help...

Personally - I have a friend who I play with, we're a 2 man squad basicly, and I certanly do enjoy that a lot.

I will look into joining a outfit sooner or later...

I'm sad to say that the more I play this game, the more I don't like it. At first I was wowed by the game's scale, but now that the novelty of that has worn off, I'm evaluating the game based on it's actual gameplay. As was previously stated, the gameplay is basicly just Call of Duty or Battlefield, and I am not a fan of those games.

Perhaps when Planetside 1 is made free-to-play, I'll play that and enjoy it more. Until then I'll try to keep playing Planetside 2, just to give it one last chance.
