okay, can't reveal the details on a public forum so we'll just go thusly:

GameX started its life over 20 years ago and has jumped across platforms with ever-diminishing success since its peek on Famicom. I would like to make a reboot on this game. Now I need to find out who actually owns the darn rights to the thing so I can get their permission.

How do I do this? The software's old and been bought and traded among companies who've merged or been bought out. Is there like a database I can look this up on?

I really really really just to get the green light for this as it's a project I can do entirely on my own and maybe earn a few bucks.

So, links to software ownership databases would be great. Real advice from an experienced person would also be great too as once I get hold of this mysterious entity, I'd need to convince them to greenlight me. Thanks

additional details: I have tried google, I go round in circles

Wikipedia/media was useful for me when I was looking for most recent owner details for a game I had similar interest in too... Bing works better for me for such searches too...

Good Luck!

Have you tried (if in the USA);

http://www.copyright.gov/records/

There are companies that will locate the info, but I have no idea what the cost would be.

There are two kinds of computer users. Those that use Macs and those that wish they did.

You can't tell us the name of an already existing title that you want to remake?

Sadly, it isn't turning up much concrete.

It appears the title wasn't copyrighted in the US then. Nothing on the site.

Not until I know if I'm gonna even start it, let-alone finish it
Don't wanna create expectations, lol.

Thanks everyone, guess I may actually have to go to the library and see if they know how to get this info. If not I'll just have to pack this thing away for now.

nonZero... You may be in luck if I still have the website I used to find the copyright holder for a game I was keen on...

I will check my book marks shortly and edit or post back here...
