Maybe this could be interesting for somebody:
I wrote two workshop articles about App Game Kit as a freelance author.
They were printed in the German magazine "Android User".
The article in the current issue (03/2013) is about programming a Sokoban clone in AGK
(http://www.android-user.de/Magazin/Archiv/2013/03/Spieleklassiker-fuer-Android-nachprogrammieren).
In an older issue (11/2012) was a beginner's course about writing a basic gaming app in AppGameKit (http://www.android-user.de/Magazin/Archiv/2012/11/Workshop-Android-Spiele-selbst-gemacht).

Die Leute wollen dann auch sowas und fagen dann irgendwas an.

Genau das ist meine Hoffnung.
Deswegen finde ich motivierende Beispiele besser als das typische "Hello World"
