I jog a few miles. The harsher it is outside, the more it takes my mind of crap.

I'm a poor runner. Asthma... But there is always room for improvement. I might try it one day.

Music tends to make me dwell on things more and make me more stressed. Is that strange?

Lifting weights always helps me out with stress, as I can just punish the weights as much as I want. They don't care, they're just weights. Another thing I like to do is go running in the rain with some somewhat chill techno or other music. Gotta make sure you protect your MP3 player right, but it's a great way to just get loose and relaxed again.

And of course, a good couple of hours of killing n00bz or blowing up aliens in a shooter can be therapeutic, especially if I'm stressed out because of people.

Walking is really good too: if you want to think with a clear mind go for a walk, if you don't want to think at all then go for a run. Running gives you more energy throughout the day too.

Funny how we have "life-lessons" threads popping up. Is this to do with valentine's day?

I'm different then I guess because I play Unreal Tournament for about 20-30 minutes and I usually feel so much better afterwards. Apart from that, a bit of classical music.

I haven't really heard of that from anyone. Is it because of the type you listen to, like the lyrics trigger things? Or just any music?

I make sure that the murderers, rapists and thieves I work with have a worse day then me.

My hat goes off to people like you, Keith, working with people that aren't happy to see you all day must be tough. But you're making them have a worse day, so that's all that counts!

The best way to relive stress is to visualise the things that stressed you. Now picture yourself in that position again.
Oh to relieve stress I usually troll people's threads like I'm doing now

Okay, seriously, I agree with the music thing. I listen to music a lot. Easily, music is the biggest part of my life.

Sometimes, when I'm really mad though, I just gotta break something. Get yourself some planks from a hardware shop and just punch through them if you can (Yeah it hurts but it feels good too and your knuckles heal fairly quickly) or kick through them if you can't punch hard. Failing that, get an axe and a pile of logs and start chopping wood (I advise you wear thick work gloves. It's not as easy as the movies make it look).

If you'd prefer a less barbaric route (then shame on you), maybe just try going to the beach or a forest and watching nature. If you relax long enough your eyes start to notice everything moving. Suddenly you'll realise there are all these flying or crawling bugs you just never noticed before. It's pretty cool, even for someone like me who doesn't go out much. And sunsets are great too.

But perhaps you need to learn to control your mind better. You have many options for this from martial arts disciplines to meditation retreats. There's quite a lot of useful stuff in eastern philosophies and learning to manipulate your mind helps keep the stress demons away.

Hope some of this helps

Playing metal loudly helps me, I also used to be a comfort eater (hence the belly) but my diet won't let me do that anymore. Though I work in a call centre, so I think I'll need to find a better form of stress relief myself, sadly I can't get away with Keith's methods because as far as I am aware my customers aren't rapists, murderers and thieves.

Also, talking about your problems with somebody is a good form of stress relief because it gets it off of your chest and also, exercise is a good form of stress relief too because it allows you to expel that energy. Meditation too, because it allows you to calm your mind and settles your thoughts.

And when I say loud metal helps, I mean I listen to stuff that sounds like people are dying.

I find that the mind is a toy, albeit a very complex one. Once you understand it you can make it do rather crazy things.

If music doesn't work, I'd suggest exerting yourself physically; running, walking, rowing, weights, sex, etc... Or perhaps try spending some time in the company of people who would be glad to see you?

If everything leads astray I'd recommend picking up a book on stress. Understanding the problem is the first step to fixing it.

Oh yeah; one more thing. If I get too stressed at work, I simply call in sick the next day. Works every time.

lol that got me through Y12. It is difficult to find a game these days with the same impact that halflife 1 had on us. I was in the luck position of going from lode runner, to wolfenstein to doom, to quake to halflife(skipping many unmemorable transitional phases.)
early days games with full ammo and weapons was a fun romp in the park indeed.

I'm not a complete idiot -- Some parts are just missing.

It depends on the reason for the stress in my opinion, if its some personal/emotional problem, say for example the girl who led you on heavily had previously led on one of your best friends, then continued to lead you both on, and then drop you because she preferred the aforementioned friend, making sure to give the most (a word i cant say on this forum)excuse possible, then continue to try and flirt with you (I'm sure most of us have bats in the closet that were still bitter about), then id listen to a song that reflects that, for example:

If however the stress is caused due some situation, say you have exams you need to study for, or a maybe a lot of work to do, then something upbeat and energetic would probably be more appropriate

A nice and slow rpg usually relieves some stress for me. Skyrim, Fallout 3, or Paper Mario are good for it. If I'm not in the mood for something relaxing, I like to play something that gives the player a lot of power or free range of movement. Something like Borderlands, Mirror's Edge, or a free-roam Rockstar game (Bully, GTA series) are good for those situations.

There are quite a lot of things that I do to relieve stress... Let's see here: Weight Lifting, alcohol, trap shooting, sex, racquetball or pickle ball, video games, and country music. That pretty much sums it up for me. They all work well, some more so than others obviously.

Words cannot describe my Greatness... But I'll give it a shot.

I am awesome....... Yeah, that works.
