Thanks.

I can't see your name in the website list; I wanted to get you to test the submission process nice and early before any further concrete work. Did you receive a confirmation email.

Got any banner/interface images you want to use on the site; post them here.

i've registered at the subdomain (have yet to receive email confirmation). if you need any help feeding it, feel free to promote and advise. i can be handy with screenshots, play-testing**, providing descriptions, some graphics or whatever else you guys might need (i can record and upload vids to my youtube account, too. hint, hint ).

** this thread has caused me to hunt down a number of long-forgotten games. you will find that the older ones, even though they may run fine ONCE, are subject to crashes/instability. i don't know if you want to support all found games for posterity's sake but semi-thorough testing should be completed with notes added to descriptions, in my humble opinion. (this is especially so with some of the (not-so-old) darkphysics examples out there).

while i see that the site is uk-based and pretty sluggish for me here in california (i think the template is causing some issues, too), i'll be happy to help wherever needed as this notion is a long time coming.

I will look into the registration issue. More hands make light work; we all have bills to pay. Try to login...

Yes I'm starting to get pissed off with the template; but its got a nice slide-how that I wanted to use to show the top rated games later on. Because it is early days, I might consider installing a different one after I get some feedback from a few people and 1and1 support.

The host is a 1and1 based unshared server, should be fast...

You might want to take a look at the ADG website for ideas. Not so much the layout but the information we include, such as price, links to AppUp, Google Play, iTunes etc.

We use Joomla, so can't help with your Drupal challenges I'm afraid.

You can also feature the games on your site if you like

so, i never received a confirmation email (all inboxes/junk mail folders checked) and, therefore, never had an opportunity to enter a password/complete registration.

i've since gone back to the site and utilized the 'change password' option which did email a password reset link immediately where i was able to enter a password and can now log in.

the site seems much faster now that i can do so. there might be a registration issue that was causing said 'sluggish-ness'.

link added for convenience (mine, atleast).

Drupal has a million settings that need setting before things take shape; it's very powerful and intimidating, but its object orientated design is very impressive.

Registration is now fully active, and a 'submit app' link has been added to registered user accounts via the main menu.

Thanks for the direction Batvink; I'll take a look.

I am not sure why you do not see the youtube button, but I can. One of the permissions is disabling the button, I will look into it later today.

Thanks for letting me know.

It states that the web media is YouTube compatible. Did you at least see the video preview when you selected the media and ? Did you post the entire URL including the video ID?

I will do some tests and tweaks; there appears to be another YouTube module available.

[b]Edit: No it does not work does it. Broken module. Making a change.

I can; as a guest, test account and in my admin account. Try adding the video then press save. The videos should display above the screenshots in the pages; I've added a video to your The Mobile game at the top. Change the video and see. Make sure your browser is downloading the latest content and not obsolete cache pages.

Interesting, it looks like your browsers are storing cache files without checking for the latest web content; the format is written underneath the actual video fields themselves (not the screenshot fields), the same format used to add a video to a YouTube playlist.

It should say under each field:
Quote: "Enter the YouTube URL. Valid URL formats include: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1SqBdS0XkV4"

It also says at the bottom of all fields:
Quote: "Enter the YouTube video URL . For example: youtube.com/watch?v=[video_id]"

The easiest way to get it up and running is to visit the video, copy the URL, paste the URL into the field and it should work. I think the creators of the module kept it this way to support YouTube parameters such as playlist and autoplay; but that is a wild guess. Or, copy the video Id and prefix with youtube.com/watch?v=.

In the screenshots fields, web tab, it says you can link youtube videos but we saw that this did not display the videos on the pages, so it is best to use the video fields for videos.

That was the trouble I was having, as I didn't see the video options below pictures.

looks like sorting on the top 20 has an issue

ASC works properly, but DESC puts a rated 4 at the top above the rated 5s

I was hoping you would not find that before I fixed it.

Why on earth that is the case, I do not know; reading across the internet it may be that for some dumb reason somebody put a sort parameter in an SQL statement somewhere in a zillion PHP files which is overriding the DESC sort setting; I haven't got the time to investigate right now. It should work, but does not. There is also a table sort script; but it does not work with rating fields.

I am looking for a safe and quick solution before touching any code. If anyone one spots any solutions for this let me know; if you see any other glitches let me know.

only the one instance. and, i've submitted another game since that had no issues.

Q: why does "logo image" submission have a minimum width requirement of 128px, when (from what i can see) the image will be re-sized to 100px wide, or smaller?

i believe the logo images are too small as presented throughout, and especially so when you're on the entry's own home page where the image is displayed at a mere 78px wide when there is no table column constraints/considerations.

Q2: any plans to expand the genre selection? on serpent moon, the only applicable category currently available for the game is "puzzle", which can be a myriad of things including jigsaw or soduko, to some of the recently-popular physics-based games, etc.

i know there is no standard set of genres (i associate "puzzle" with more of a "strategy" notion, for example, which doesn't apply to serpent moon) so i would include all that you can come up with.

without knowing if averaged ratings can get half stars like 4.5 or if it rounds to an integer, or simply drops the decimals and casts to an integer, and without knowing the exact ratings being averaged, this is just a guess here but i'd say it is sorting by max rating rather than average rating.

the rated 4 on top (Sunday Drivers) has 2 votes which means one of them could be a 5 to average down to 4. none of the other items have anything to average (most only have 1 vote, one other has 2 votes but both votes have to be a 5)

on ASC sort, it could be sorting on min rating and so appears to sort correctly as the other vote on Sunday Drivers could be a 4 in the case of dropping the decimal. If the other rating was a 3 then it may correctly be sorting on average.

Now if both ratings were 4s, I dunno...

I'm adding all tweak requests to this reply.

TODO LIST
Quote: "

No reason; just defaults at the moment. However, changing the logo display size changes it throughout all pages that display it; so in the browse game section the logos may need to be removed if the compact browser table size is to be maintained.

Quote: "Q2: any plans to expand the genre selection? on serpent moon, the only applicable category currently available for the game is "puzzle", which can be a myriad of things including jigsaw or soduko, to some of the recently-popular physics-based games, etc.

Please list any genre requests so I can add them; provide their parent genre then list them in hierarchy please. I don't play puzzle games so wouldn't know all the different genres. For now I'll add Jigsaw and Soduko because you mentioned these ones.

Of course it is I haven't played it yet but it seems like Malevolence is one of the more polished games so far... I was really impressed with the Kickstarter, too.

There definitely needs to be some kind of repository or "go-to-place" for newcomers to find COMPLETED games that were created with DarkBasic Pro. I spent hours on google searches trying to find DB Games and was rather disappointed in not finding a well-thought-out centralized site for such games. There are tons of unfinished games but these don't do much to inspire me. I did find some of the games mentioned in this thread but there really should be a central place and it should be easily found from thegamecreators.com .

If there is already such a place, please point me in the right direction.

Just my two cents.

Hi Spiral, just a heads up, bit drunk right now but should survive long enough to type this out... Check out http://www.akaneaya.com/tgcforumrepository/ and also for an fpsc game X10 albeit http://www.akaneaya.co.uk/tgcforum/

You are more than welcome to post up anything relevant to TGC Forum material on my repository but you need to ask me to place it into the public folders once tested

I host this for free and always ad free too, have a look there are some pretty useful things in there too!

Good night my beauties

Nice list

And I see you have my game Cars Incorporated in there too. Racing is not really fitting though but the other categories aren't a better fit as well

You might want to change the link to point to the homepage as the old WiP thread has been closed because of a lack of responses there. The Homepage can be found at http://cars-inc-game.com with current updates.

I think it would be great if TGC sold them for us on the website, maybe when a game is first released, show screen shots on the main page.
I know they only sell tools for the most part, but what better advertising then showing what you can do with the tools they make.

No problem, changed the link! I know it doesn't fit into the "Racing" genre at all, but I struggled to find another category to place it in. Maybe I'll create a "Simulation" category.

This is an optimistic vision and it's something I agree with but I don't think it's likely to happen. This thread should prove that there are enough high-quality dbpro games, and a TGC-hosted store would be incredible. But it would be hard to maintain and someone would have to moderate it, approving or denying game submissions based on quality and I don't know if that's viable or something TGC would do. I do wish they created a showcase area of the site (I believe this used to exist)...

That showcase area still exists. It's at the bottom of the page, called "Users game gallery".

But I think selling the games isn't something TGC should do as TGC is more of a place to go to if you want to make games, not get games. However promoting quality games could be mutualy benefical: For TGC to show off what their products can do and for the creators as some free publicity.

But as I said: Nice list

MrValentine, thanks for the response. I looked at your page... as a newbie to DarkBasic it's not exactly user-friendly... If I'm looking for games created with DBPro... where do i go? I looked at DBPro files... only 4 items... 10 in total? um... yeah this isn't what I'm looking for. I guess there isn't any worthwhile collective... yet?

That's a shame.. considering DBasic has been around long enough to have warranted it if there were any decent games being made with the tools... as a newbie I find this very discouraging. It makes me wonder... if there are no worthy games to display/showcase that were made with the tool... then perhaps that says something about it?

Maybe in time you guys can build up your sites to create something like this. I can't really see the psychology behind having all these nice tools and not showing (in a centralized manner) what can be done with them. There's a definite disconnect here. That or I am seriously missing something.

Thanks though, I will continue to support DB and do my best to be more active. I've been watching this place grow for 5 years now.

this thread's as close as you can get to an exhaustive list of games made in db/dbpro and i agree that there should be a true showcase of the many completed games and well-rounded demos made.

i had hoped chris tate's dbshowcase would take off as such and fed a 1/2-dozen favorites of mine into the database there, hoping others would follow course. a few did but the energy quickly dwindled.

personally, i'm not fond of the site's design. i find it cumbersome and lacking in some regards. alas, like just about everything connected to dark basic, it's very much user driven and we all have lives and priorities outside the realm of dark basic, with little free time and energy to devote to such things (especially when we've all got a hundred WIPs in our projects folder to work on ).

my hope is that TGC puts together a lean and clean, friendly, showcase framework on TGC servers someday. this makes the most sense to me given the fact that most users drift on at some point in time, taking whatever they'd offered in the past with them. the thousands of dead links within the forums can attest to that...

if anyone that can help make that happen reads this, let them know i'd offer my time & energy populating and moderating such an endeavor, upon request.

beyond that, i think this thread is as close as we'll get.
