They should put up a sticky "Royalties" Faq here.

I guess the reason there is no such thing is that when people do finalize a game for "Shipment" - I think you will get help by mailing the game creators support.

But a line about TGC royalties or the lack of them should be in the main faq.

When it comes to apple - I think you should check out their own developer site. I don't think we can ask TGC to help us with the rules for each market.

Her is a googled link:
http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/app-builder/app-store-fees-percentages-and-payouts-what-developers-need-to-know/1205

I never want what I know.

Apple percentage is 30% on what you sell in the Appstore. TGC percentage is only if you publish through them. Not sure they publish anything at the moment. If you sell your own games through your own store (don't think you can do that with iOS apps) then you get all the money yourself, minus whatever the payment method you choose charges.

The primary reason why a person may wish to publish through TGC would be if they are releasing to iOS/Mac but do not want to pay for the annual Apple developer license, or do not have access to a Mac to build and release their app. Apple charges $100 a year for the iOS developer license, and another $100 if you wish to publish to Mac.

However, if you already have the developer license and a Mac to build your app on yourself, there is no reason to go through TGC to release your app and you then have no other fees to pay other than what Apple takes out (30% of your sale total).

I'm not sure how well supported publishing through TGC is, if at all, as they do not have any solid information on the subject. I only know of one independent game that was published through TGC, and that was the winner of a Snake competition (MoonSnaker). The developer there ended up releasing it himself on some platforms as it was taking months for TGC to publish it after the competition ended.

Actually, to be accurate, it is $99 a year.

Well, to be even more accurate, I am officially billed $104.45 in the US . But you are correct, $99 is the base price although you will always end up paying well over $100 with tax.

Curious. I was not charged sales tax. Maybe you are in the same state as Apple, so were charged sales tax.

Well that's even more interesting, I thought all states got charged sales tax from Apple. I'm in Wisconsin, I know others get charged tax as well in Michigan (whatever the sales tax for that state is). Hmm.

Apparently, there is legislation under way that will require all web sites to charge and collect sales tax no matter what state the order is placed from.

Yeah not all online transactions are subject to sales tax yet.
About half of the states require it at this time.
I'm in Florida and was not charged sales tax.

At least you're not in the UK and charged 20% VAT!

Why? He has nothing to do with setting up the current tax structures in the US and absolutely nothing to do with VAT taxes in other countries.

If everything was tax free, then your annual income taxes would be enormous to cover all the costs that the various government levels have.

Okay, I accept that you are joking (and figured out that you are probably a citizen of Israel).

But it is not safe to assume anything about anybody. So I play it pretty 'straight' and respond to things as they are written.
