Quote: "More and more people are now playing video games thanks to the rise of smartphone gaming.

But would you go to a pub to play video games - or indeed go to watch someone else play?

That is exactly what thousands of devoted gamers do around the world.

And now Londoners have the chance to do the same, after the Meltdown pub opened in early June. It hosts its own gaming tournaments and screens international championships from around the world, just like a regular sports bar might screen the big match."

So this is kinda like a livestream, but people can shout abuse at you and not get muted?

Haha, it's a neat concept. I hope it's successful enough to spread to here

Considering the pub culture in the UK I'm not surprised!

I think it's a pretty cool idea.

Interesting, but not really arcades, at least not traditionally. There's a bar like that here in Australia, the Mana Bar, which has TV's with consoles set up on them, and they serve video-game themed cocktails and such. They are interesting places, and kind of fun to go to. That said, they can be very dead at times. It's nice to go there for a pint and play some games though.

I really like the idea of e-sports though. I got into Trackmania in a big way a few years ago, and raced in some of the better teams in Australia. That was always exciting. Recently I've been watching Starcraft tournaments, which are surprisingly well commentated.

I've always thought that a network of Pub/Restaurant games would be cool. Have 2 seats set up at Fuddrucker's and 2 seats set up at Applebee's. You can then play the games in RPG and/or League of Legends style gameplay with your hero being a character unique to the franchise you're playing from.

Hopefully they don't think this is a good idea.
