Hi all. The other day, for some strange reason, I decided to go on T3DGM. When in it, I degaussed my monitor, as hadnt done it for a few months. Suddenly my screen spazzed out, went all funny with vertical lines and wacky colours. Managed to still see the display, to exit to Windows. Now windows was the same, so i restarted my computer. When Windows loaded up, it was fine. Tried to watch a DVD, then it did it again. Restarted and it again returned to normal. Left any 3D games or apps alone for a day, then tried to play StarWraith 2. Again it happened. Then on return to Windows it was fine. Ran the PolyVector Physics demo (with the carpet) and again it did it, fine when quitted back to windows.

As it was only with 3D stuff (other 2d apps were fine) I came to the conclusion that it may be some sort of driver problem. If so, why did it start when I degaussed my monitor? Just downloaded DX 9,0b and Catalyst 3.9 (excluding the Vivo part as my card doesnt support it). Im not going to install them yet as Im awaiting a new writer and I need to back a lot of work up before risking an update.

Before I do I'd like to ask if anyone here has experienced a similar problem?

Cheers.

Using 3D programs rather than 2D programs require a lot more work. This conflict could have to do with how much RAM is on your video card. It could also be that your video card has shorted out in some way.

I thought it may have been my subwoofer interfering with my video card as its on the floor next to my tower. But it couldnt be coz its been there for a while with no previous problems. Plus it never happened before with either starwraith or the carpet demo. It started straight after i degaussed my monitor. If it is shorted in some way then it could mean a new card.....but if i got a new 8x AGP it would probably also require a new motherboard and DDR RAM. Cost.

It is possible you have had some feedback on the video cable back to the video card. In which case you are in for an expensive repair.

However assuming for the moment the problem is with the monitor you could try changing your refresh rate in your Windows display adapter properties. It might just be that certain refresh rates are effected in the case of an electrical fault on the monitor. This would be indicative of a bad monitor design (a weekness in the Faraday cage).

God created the world in 7 days, but we're still waiting for the patch.

Quick update : Last night I ran Milkshape to see if it affected all 3d programs instead of just games and stuff. I loaded it up, plopped a few vertices around the viewport and joined them up as faces. No problem seemingly. THEN, I selected 1 vertex and dragged it and lo and behold it happened again. So its a 3D drawing problem. Might be solved with a driver update, just have to wait and see.
