http://www.idsaconference.org/index.php/program/special-events/item/267-launch-day-challenge

IDSA is holding a contest for their conference this year. Design and printable car based on their axle/wheel design. Top ten will be printed and launched down a ski slop! Might be a fun challenge to get into.

I've been drawing up some ideas, think I'll enter for fun. Prospect of winning my own 3D printer is awesome.

If anyone is interested in a building an entry, I'll be posting up some useful files to be used. Also, if you have a model build and want to do some basic physics simulations I can run them for you as I have a few programs to do this.

Entering is free, so there's nothing to loose! You have until Aug 12th to enter.

Here's a look at the axle/wheel step file they want you to use in your design. It's a pretty easy design to work with, so designing around it shouldn't be difficult.

STEP File Download

A program to get your hands on for this competition is FreeCAD. It's an open source 3D cad program that you'll be able to create your step file. I'm going to build my design in Truespace to test physics and then convert it to CAD to stress test it before sending it off.

That's going to be rough ._.

pretty cool contest - I currently suck when it comes to cars, but it could be fun

As long as you follow the rules of 3D printing I don't think it be a problem if you had several pieces.
