http://www.engadget.com/2006/09/10/catcher-rugged-umpc-handles-50-gs-of-shock/

Recentley got this, after my earlier thread and $100 got the tochscreen driver i need and now i ask your help thinking of a cool name for it.

I am out of ideas for a name thats meaningful (i treat my technology as if they were my childeren )

some examples of what i named my technology in the past are:
my first modern laptop that i got with my own money- msi is named REACTOR because of how hot it gets, Another vesion of the same laptop which i got later is ReactorII

my huge 17 inch D900C laptop with a desktop xeon (one of the most powerful laptops in the world around late 2000s) is ironically named Macbook Air.

My main PC which is in an industrial bulletproof server case is called mainframe for obvios reasons and any config inside the case will always be named mainframe.

My Lenovo s10 netbook which is now falling apart (the military UMPC is a replacement for it since it couldnt handle the ruggedness of my work) is called is called Net-Kitten because when i first showed it to my best friend the first thing he said is " Its like the kitten of laptops!"

My PC that a built for graphics (incide an ancient server tower from 1989) is called Unitec because thats the brand of the company that sold them, couldnt think of anything creative and unitec just sounded good.

My Acer laptop which is incredibly slow is named Enigma.

My samsung laptop which is suprisingly powerful for its weak specs is named i486DX (a pre-pentium processor model from early 90s)

my storage server is called Cyberdump because of its crappy elite-group motherboard that belongs in a dump and because thats where i dump my data.

And now this UMPC i got. I feel like i need to think of a special- cool name for it because i think it loooks cool (like something out of star-wars or an old scifi movie) and because of its great functionality and communication ability.

I prefer to name my computers after something technological.

So anyone wanna share ideas?

I temporarly named it iPad57

Not usually good with names, but I, like you, name my devices. Generally I take my ideas from mythology, for instance, this tesktop I'm running is called Niðoggr, my laptop is Loki, my old laptop was Behemoth, my phone is Muspell, I think my iPod is Nifl, but it's been ages since I've connected it to my PC and I'll probably be soon naming a tablet of my own.

In hindsight I should probably have named my tower after a Norse god on the account of it having a Xigmatek Asgard case. Ah well, at least Nidhogg is from the same mythology.

For something Star Wars like? The Rancor? R2-D2? Sithbuster 9000?

I like stupid names I guess.

You could call it "fan sandwich", because it has fans and the first thing it made me think of was a sandwich.

If I were you I'd just stick with basic code names from now on. (Planets, dinosaur species, etc.)

You could translate the names of these into something vaguely technology related or alter it based on some other term. e.g., you could give a "generation name" as a planet, and how powerful it is as a type of material (based on whatever value ordering scheme you like). Then you have something like "Saturn Gold," or "Gold Saturn," followed by a slightly better version of that like "Saturn Platinum." When you make a significantly better version (totally different parts) it would use a different name, such as "Neptune Silver." etc.

Alternatively, you might find using the year/month you made it as an effective naming scheme, if combined with a relevant term like what it is (desktop, laptop, tablet). e.g., Tablet 1308. (It's a tablet made in 2013's 8th month (August).) This assumes that you only build more powerful computers as time goes on though. Otherwise it's not as useful.

I'd call it Pip, and I'd install a custom skin for XP, something a bit retro-modern, like the fake GUI stuff we see in disaster movies, some nice green or amber on black. That might actually save a bit of battery life - using dark colours just like the first windows laptops did to save power.

Actually it looks kinda thick for a tablet - why not call it SLAB!

That or the homonym. There is something about the word homonym. It makes me feel like being silly, say it a lot and see...
