Quote: "Bill Gates has described the decision to use Ctrl+Alt+Del as the command needed to log on to a PC as a mistake. In an interview, the Microsoft co-founder blamed IBM for the shortcut, saying he had favoured a single button. The keyboard shortcut was invented by IBM engineer David Bradley. Originally he had favoured Ctrl+Alt+Esc, but he found it was too easy to bump the left side of the keyboard and reboot the computer accidentally so switched to Ctrl+Alt+Del because it was impossible to press with just one hand."

Considering it actually used to reboot the computer I think having a single button would have been a much bigger mistake...

Not long ago, in the local newspaper, there was a story of a woman who had been tied to a chair by a burgler, and managed to open and unlock her laptop using only her feet to call for help. In such a situation, I would prefer not to have such an impossible combination of buttons.

You're missing the fun part of that though, we could have had special buttons with safety covers like in a fighter jet!

Yeah, maybe there should be a single button for a situation like that... like maybe the 9 button on a phone? For example if you could just press it say three times and help would come! That would be awesome

Seriously, if you were tied to a chair then rebooting wouldn't really help though would it?

If there was one button for everything keyboards would be pretty big...

I thought computers did have a reboot button.

Having said that I'm now trying to locate it on my laptop ...

Mine does, but I keep mixing it up with the button for my pointless and pathetic blue interior tube light. I don't know why it even has a switch on the case, does it consume so much power? Or is it so awesome that you must reserve it for when you really need to be a badass?

This old video kind of shows a seemingly none-too-pleased Bill Gates at the suggestion that he made it famous:

I'm glad they didn't follow Bill Gates' command on this one. I mean, Ctrl+Alt+Del is just PERFECT for what it is.
