I like the idea of a little bit of chance in a game but this made me think of the philosophical implications of random numbers. Adding a touch of randomness to your game makes it more realistic because in reality there are always unknown variables, and random numbers represent those unknowns. Once you decide that your game cannot be purely deterministic it opens it up to subjective analysis and interpretation, which makes things a lot more interesting.
