I made program using AppGameKit 108 beta 19 that works fine on:
-my windows 7 devellopment desktop.
-a windows 7 laptop.
-3 XP laptops (all the same).

People who tested my application on other PC´s receive the error message mentionned in the title of this thread(inter alia):
-2 windows 7 laptops.
-a very recent windows 8 laptop
-a very recent windows 8 desktop

Except for my devellopment desktop non of the computers have the AppGameKit devellopment software installed.

What are the precise runtime requirements for an AppGameKit app on windows?

I've asked this sort of question before.
When producing apps for PCs, this is pretty much essential information.

Would be great is somebody could answer to the question above!
I'm getting the same error report from some customers!
What is the problem if "Vertex shader failed to compile at line 0" comes up?

Thanks in advance!

I also would still like to get an answer to this question.
I think more people should test their apps on several PC`s
I would recommend PC´s that don´t have AppGameKit installed on it from a "customer" who is a non-gamer. Otherwise there is a chance that some required software has already been installed on their system.

I think in a lot of cases it would be possible to get the problem(vertex shader...) solved. I could solve the problem for most of my "customers".
It tried a lot of things, but don´t know wich ones helped? You can not do sytematic experiments on your customer PC´s nor ask them to do it.
Things I tried:
-installing DirectX 9.0c
-updating the driver of the graphics card.
-recompiling with AppGameKit 107.
-Using a custom font bitmap with a lower resolution.
-...
I don´t know wich one helped in wich case.

Maybe people could list the steps that are most succesfull.
Maybe some kind of guide can be compiled.
A standard installer/annex diagnostic tool can be made

I have difficultly explaining to PC users why this and other inconsistencies occur.
At the very least, we would want to know:

Minimum shader version required, Open GL version etc.

Ideally even if these minimum requirements can be tested for and handled.

One tester just gets a black screen and nothing else for instance...

It does sound like an openGL version issue. We really need the information nz0 points out!

I believe you need opengl 2.0 !

As you state, you cannot examine end users devices, but when you know what your app needs you can stat these as minimum requirements...this is in line with ANY Pc game released!

Sounds like a good addition to AppGameKit Pascal. We'll look into it when we have the latest version stable.

But:

Driver issues are very difficult to deal with.

this "Vertex shader failed to compile at line 0" problem has been around for quite a while now and yet, NO PROPER ANSWER!!!

i've read about a workaround using the SetErrorMode(0) which didn't work and the last thing i read was we'd just have to wait until the next version...

GREAT!!! it was working fine before i downloaded version 108.21

does anyone know where i can find teh previous version?

Can yo run the attached exe and let me know if you still get the error, and what the error is. It should now include additional information.

I've modified the file so it should produce a more meaningful error message, let me know what happens.

@Paul
I tested your exe on some of the computers that gave problems (see first post of this thread)
1)ASUS Eee PC X10H 1.00 GB *** Intel Atom *** Windows 7 Starter Service Pack 1 32 bit OS *** Intel Graphics media accelelator
Error message from your program:
uncaught execption.
Vertex shader failed to compile: error 0:1
Version number not supported bij GL2
2) ASUS X 550 C series 6 GB ram *** Windows 8.1 64 bit
*** Intel graphics 4000
Your exe gives no problems.

I have no accces for the moment to the other PC's that gave error messages.

Unfortunately that device uses a GPU that doesn't support OpenGL 2.0
