My sister just got back from being in Scotland for a few months for a foriegn exchange program for college. She brought back some pretty interesting stuff.

Some of you know that my name is Xander (actually it should be in my signature down there). My sister went to a cafe in Scotland called Xander's !

I think all of us here in the US know what root beer is. At least you all should. However, my sister said that they don't have much root beer at all in Europe! I can't imagine my life without root beer (Root beer is not alcoholic, it is just a soda)

So... how many of you have never had or heard of root beer?

In England we don't have root beer. Could be Ginger beer or ginger ale. I like Canada Dry!

Nah, totally different...! Ginger beer is made from ginger, shandy is nothing like root beer

We do, it's about £1.29 a bottle from Asda, Summerfield or other supermarkets.

It DOES actually taste like the pink mouth rinse at dentists, but nicer.

Lol, yeah anything imported to America that beer in it and had children appeal, they changed to root beer.

I can't say i've had Ginger beer, but it's nothing like Dr. Pepper. There are 3 other sadas that tase siumalar to root beer that I know of, they are sarsparilla, birch beer, and cream soda. it really diffficult to desribe it's taste, maybe we should trade sodas online or something.

Root beer? Heard of it, just always assumed was a US kiddy drink. ie. not real alcohol - bit like Fosters.

And if it is like ginger beer then pass me the mug of flavoured nappy water instead. Yuck...

As for a real man's girly drink then try a Guiness and Black. Yummy, quite alcoholoc (a little bit), and pink. Nice.

Try Red Bull. That's the crap taste drink, with medicinal overtones, we have over here now. Normally is mixed with Vodka for the price of a small house in Wales. True puke like.

Cheers

I like ginger ale and birch beer and cream soda too, but they are all different from root beer.

Maybe you guys could buy some Brach's root beer barrels, root beer flavored sucking candy.

I wonder why it's so rare to buy the stuff? It would sell surely? People like to copy the Americans in England! Give us Root Beeer! Also Meat loaf whatever that is!

Cos it tastes like medicine?

As to Cream soda. Mmmm... nice stuff.

But the main import is peanut butter. Nice.

Oh, and try beef jerky (proper US import - actually made in Argentina). Now that's pretty good. It's not as if it's anything new, just nice and tasty smoked meat in a plastic bag (which we don't tend to do here).

I have had root beer, it's a bit of an aquired taste. Haven't ever seen it anywhere other than america.

I don't like red bull unless it's got in it. Too expensive unless the local chain pub has it on offer or you are abroad. Now I really want a pint of redbull

Irn bru is quite popular down here, I think it's just because the have sell multi-packs for 19p a can. All the kids buy them and drink 6 cans at once, must have some funny chemicals in.

Root Beer is similar to Ginger Beer (not Ginger Ale, different stuff altogether), only American Root Beer isn't as close to as strong as English Ginger Beer.

What you can buy in the UK isn't Root Beer, i've had both. They're not even close.
It's like trying to tell me that Pepsi and CokeCola are the same - They're not even close to the same. Same type of drink, but it's the taste that makes them totally different.

not that either ginger beer or root beer is very nice in larger amounts.
little bits yeah, but larger qualities just makes you ill.

Shandies are good, not something you hear of them doing here much.
whip open a can of Peckers and a bottle of lemonade, they taste so god damn gorgeous i grew up on them with my mates.
Especially as our local served them too ^_^ so we were allow stuff like that. Stronger than these silly fruit based drinks like Houch and Breezer.

But then again i do like Cranberry Breezer ^_^ but i like bacardi in any form, hehee
Red Bull and Vodka is an odd drink isn't it, hehee - what bright spark has the idea of putting alchol into an energy drink, can get totally wired and pissed at the same time.

Man you know something not had in donkies years and that's IrnBru, like 80% sugar hehee

^_^ wonder if many kids are brought up on Dandilion & Burdock anymore though, god know that is one hell of a tastey drink.
Can even get my brother to drink with a combo of D&B w/Guniess ... an odd combination but it works soooo well ^_^

also recently discovered a new drink out here, take a slash of Southern Comfort, a shot of Dongini and a squeeze of Blueberries.
It's STRONG stuff that, i downed like 2 pints of that the othernite ... i was particially blind for like 30mins. was fun fumbling around for people cause i could just make out thier blurry figures lol

Yes, but usually our strange ice cream flavors aren't popular...at all.

Top american favorites are most likely mint chocolate chip, chcololate chip cookie dough, chocolate, anything with peanutbutter in it (like ripple or peanut butter cup).

Coke sucks, it's barely even sweet, especially in comparison to pepsi.

Never forget Vanilla, there's like 16 different kinds of the stuff.

On the topic of soda, I some cranberry soda they had as a X-Mas day promotion, 3 liter for 88 cents. It tastes ok much less of a bitter after taste then straight juice.

Vanilla is, well, vanilla, it'll never go out of style.

Cookie Dough is TEH GODLIKE ICE CREAM.

We make our own ice cream though-- from unpasturized cream, Grade B maple syrup, organic flavoring, and organic berries/our own cookie dough. It's very good stuff, and I've only tasted two store brands that beat it in taste (as long as you don't screw up the amounts, this is a well-perfected recipie).

on the topic of Ben and Jerry's...Heathbar Crunch rocks!

Root beer float (root beer + 1 scoop of Vanilla ice cream in it)=nice
Cream soda = very good but only once in a while.
Coke = yuck, caramel sugar water - is ok, a bit nasty at times
Pepsi = a little better than coke

I started drinking root beer more frequently when I got sick of the caramel sugar water tastes of pepsi and coke. I am not a huge fan of soda altogether but I tend to like citrus flavored sodas like Mountain Dew (looks like a urine sample in a glass) and Sunkist orange soda.

I mostly drink beer - as in plain old alcohol beer...Budweiser.

i used to hate root beer, i can drink it now. cheap root beer is ok, but it's best if you get it in a frosted mug, good stuff like IBC, or A&W. Birch beer taste simular to root beer but imo has a richer favor. Most ginger ale is boring to me but Vernors ginger ale has a kick and an actual ginger taste. Of course there's root beer floats (root beer with a scoop or two of vanilla ice cream in it) or a "black cow" (which is just a root beer float blended into a smoothie)!

root beer isn't a fake beer, or a non-alcoholic beer, but rather just a flavor of "soda," which in the midwest we call "pop."

Pop? Grief, that's a word from the past. Is basically what your gran said to you a few decades ago, "Would you like a nice glass of pop deary?" etc. Give me a chimney to clean...

We don't call it soda though. Is one of the few american words that really didn't pickup here. Much like we don't call sweets candy. We call candy candy. eg. candy floss.

As to D&B. Hmmm. Could be *the* DB drink. Is nice until the taste starts to seem like urine. A little like Baileys (try Sheridons, is miles better). Try Vimto. Yummy. Or Ribena. Now that's some drinks from the past

Cheers
