actually the ouya 3d hardware is good but not the 2d stuff.

to fix this you need to set the backbuffer screen size.

use setscreenresolution(x,y) something smaller till it works at 60fps

1280,720 seems to be ok on ouya

it should be ok to do this with no virtual resolution....

Ouya can't handle virtual resolutions???

I didn't know that, and was under the impression that NVIDIA is good quality.

I guess I am getting too old, because I can't tell the difference in 30 fps from anything higher, unless the number is being displayed.
30 frames per second is pretty fast for the human eye to catch everything, and seems more than smooth enough for me.
If I were filming Jackie Chan or a humming bird I might want 60 fps for a slow motion playback at 30fps, but for general animation or video 30fps is fine for the human eye.

it can!

I think this user was trying to say they are using a percentage system instead of a virtual resolution.

changing the backbuffer should work fine with the command i posted

Oh ok,
I thought you guys meant virtual resolution was problematic on Ouya after both of you mentioned not using it.

I thought you meant it wouldn't be ok if you did use virtual resolution.

See what I get for thinking.
