Hi everyone,

Today I'm starting version 1.4 and I'm going to add support for loading multiple objects and or bsp maps etc.. at the same time.
Save as DB code too.
And the demo we have all the full version features except for save DB code.

All Ideas are very welcome, so If you have a request for v1.4 please post here.

Also I'm going to give the first 5 people a FREE copy of the full version so that I can find out all the bugs and problems that may be with it.

Cheers,

Philip

I'm interested in testing it. Besides programming, I also like to build models in DOGA CGA and Metasequoia. Given the problems with 5.2, I'd like to see if it will support .X models created with those apps.

So far, I've started to re-write all the program code.
It can now load multiple objects at one time and you can select them using the mouse and change their views from Solid to Wireframe or Ghosted views.

I'll be adding a "Save DarkBASIC Pro Code" button function. which I will need help with testing it.

So far, its working quite well

@G Bros Software

Hey I'm glad to see you've come a long way with this. I myself am personally working on my own 3D model editor, but this one is really feature packed I must admit.

I havn't had the chace to download as of yet, but you've got some nice features in the viewer.

Keep up the good work.

If you sent it to me, it may have bounced off of my puny Yahoo web based e-mail account. You can also try, tzircher@cox.net. I rarely check that account so send me a note if you do.

@zircher
Cool, belive it or not but I think its nearly finished but I'll wait for you to post back with your comments ands bugs etc...

I've been working all day on it.

@Everyone
In 1.4 you can:
Load .dbo .x .3ds objects,
Load up to 1000 objects,
Copy objects, like using copy & paste,
Changes views from solid to ghosted or wireframe to objects,
Apply effect files to objects ".fx",
Change the speed at which you move/scale/rotate objects,
Change the speed the camera moves,
Render to file,
Scale objects,
Position object,
Rotate objects.
and the best thing is...
Save DarkBASIC Code

Question, was this made using DBP with patch 5.2 installed? I got some files which bear the signature 'implosion' of 5.2. [That patch has a new .X parser that is not quad poly friendly.] Models that are triangulated do come through just fine.

Also, the test version that I have did not have a help file. That would really come in handy since some simple features such as rotate object were not obvious. Aside from those two points, it looks pretty solid.

Yes I used patch 5.2 also I hadn't completed the rotate object or scale/move modes.

I didn't include the help file also because I have to update it from the old version 1.3 manual, because I have to create new screenshots for the tutorials.

edit:
sory, just reat thread much more carefully and i asume you have gone for the multi object instead of the bsp.

oh, i can help test it if you want awsell, even just the other formats i can test

Can I load bsp?
version 1.3: Yes
version 1.4: No, but will do for 1.5

If you want version 1.3 then you can still get it here:
http://www.fileplanet.com/files/130000/134134.shtml

But you can wait for 1.5 because I am working on it now.

i don't need bsp but it would be useful, i have quake3 to view them at the moment, i am still interested on helping test any version though, no matter what file format as this looks to be a very interesting and promising program.

kudos. At first I was like "anyone can do that" and you might remember me saying that...

But now I think it's very nice, and worth the money. However I'm not gonna wait on GameSpy to download it...

I can personally host it, this comp doesn't go down often. www.nazcode.com is a slow project, but as you can see, it should be running just fine. Would you like to make a deal? Host for a reg'dversion?

I intend on making a similar program in the future. My 3d map editor proves that I can... (on LLRGT code snippets). So I'd basically be using your program for UI purposes. (and my free santa game that isn't out yet due to a possible bug in camera rotation).

I'm still willing to pay for it, just not attend GameSpy for half an hour.

Would you be willing to download it in multiple files? ie: 2mb files (my host max file size limit is 2m) and it is over 2mb

nice, thanks.

I must say... the camera movement sucks. Even altering the speed only helps a little. I rotate the thing and because of the way it's built, it just slowly goes offscreen. It will return I know, facing the correct direction... 10 minutes later perhaps.

Implement a free camera movement, like in MatEdit, and maybe, just maybe, I won't shudder at how I'd ever use this thing to place objects.

However, your interface is REALLY nice for a DBP program.

Thanks for comments, Do you think a first person shooter style camera movement would be easier? Or did you mean, when the camera rotates around the scene? or do you want one like the CShop map editor?

There is a help file with all the controls but here it is:
To Rotate An Object
1. "Edit" menu then "Rotate Object Mode" or press "R" key
2. Select an object either by left clicking on one or using the option in the menu "Select Object..."
3. Use keyboard keys.
(a) "Left" or "Right" keys to change "Y" angle
(b) "Up" or "Down" keys to change "X" angle
(c) Hold down "Shift Key" and use "Left" or "Right" keys to change "Z" angle

To Scale An Object
1. "Edit" menu then "Scale Object Mode" or press "S" key
2. Select an object either by left clicking on one or using the option in the menu "Select Object..."
3. Use keyboard keys.
(a) "Left" or "Right" keys to change "Y" size
(b) "Up" or "Down" keys to change "Z" size
(c) Hold down "Shift Key" and use "Up" or "Down" keys to change "Y" size

To Move An Object
1. "Edit" menu then "Move Object Mode" or press "M"
2. Select an object either by left clicking on one or using the option in the menu "Select Object..."
3. Use keyboard keys.
(a) "Left" or "Right" keys to change "Y" position
(b) "Up" or "Down" keys to change "Z" position
(c) Hold down "Shift Key" and use "Up" or "Right" keys to change "Z" position

I know how to use it... I scaled it down so it'd rotate faster but its axis was off... which caused a problem. A rotation speed would help... 100 was still slow for the model.

Cshop-style would provide better freedom. FPS style is fine too. You could put in both.

Hi everyone,

I have been working on the next version so here its for you all.

3D Viewer 1.5
BSP loading has been added back in!
Camera movement has been improved a lot!
Opens: "bsp, dbo ,x and 3ds"
Allows you to scale them, rotate and even position them.
You can apply DX9 Effect files to objects providing your graphics card supports it.
Then if you have paid a small price it allows you to save DB code, Ideal for positioning models in your game levels.

Here is the link:
