Hi I'm new, and need some help I did type out a long message before but it was lost so please excuse if the message is very... to the point. First question, how do I properly build an .exe as the .exe I have right now needs all the .bmp, .3ds files ect, secondly how do I change the icon of the .exe and finaly is there any add-ons for DB? Like in photoshop you have plug-ins is there anything like that for DB? Thanks in advance

P.S. Could somone explain .3ds and .x files I know what 3d models are but don't quite understand how to use them in 3d programs

for your first question, select (in DB) file->build final. that will pack all your media files into the exe so they cant be stolen . 2nd question: i'm not sure. 3rd question: if you purchase "darkMATTER" it will come with a DB expansion pack that will allow you to load use DLL's which are basically just plugins. last question: .3ds and .x are just different file formats that models are saved in (example: text files are stored in .txt files) that DB can load. as for how to use them, make a 3d object (in milkshape for example) and export it in the .x format, place the file into the same folder as your source file, and type "load object "yourobject.x",1.

Thanks for your help but now I have another two question's how do create the levels? and also make it so that your game has a save feature?

one last thing if you texture the 3d model in a 3d program such as 3ds max or milkshake will it still be textured when you import it in to the game?

ok well when I build final it works in the folder with all the other files when I take it out I get a run time error: error 10 what excatly does that mean?

you can use any modelling program to ceate levels, but cartography shop is probly the best. do a earch on save features as there are a few threads about this subject i think, but to get you heading in the right direction: what you need to do is have you game create a text file with the players position, lives, bullets, ect. you can then read this back into your game and use the numbers to reset the players variables. yes, just make sure you copy the model AND the texture butmap into your source file. and also, when i create a final and move it out of the source folder, it work fine so im not sure what your prob is there.

thanks again for your help but I'm not quite sure what you mean about the levels I was meaning like in jedi outcast you have 24 levels now you can't load them all at once because the pc would take forever and slow the game down so in a way the levels are split up so how do you split up the levels? thats what I was meaning not how do you design the levels. Also if I was to place them in a .txt file people could edit that is there anyway to make it so they cannot change it by changing it? for example a part of a save game file from jedi outcast

now lets face it none of us can really read that unless we totaly know what where doing with that type of stuff where as with a .txt file it so easy to change somthing like

the compiler makes the code look like that. you could make a little function that changes the letters or something:

but thats very basic, it would only change the string if it were EXACTLY "a" or "b" etc. but you get my drift

each level would be a differtent model. example:

psuedo code:

load object first level

if player get to the end of first level:
load object second level
and so on

ok thanks but what about this error I keep getting (runtime error 10) it's only when I move my .exe's from the main folder allmost like I keep compling them wrongly / when I know I'm not (well unless what you told me to do was wrong and I doubt that)

try opening the source file you're trying to make into an .exe and compile it (in DB). does it work? if so, i'm not sure what your problem is maybe down load the latest DBC patch?

yeah it works it's just when it's not with the source files allmost like it needs them even though it's comiled /. So where can I get this patch?
