ESC and I are continuing work on Roswell Racer. Our goals include:
*bug fixes
*game play tweaking
*track revision
*at least 1 new track
*X -> DBO migration

Right now im doing a bit of work on the Roswell Track. If anyone has any ideas for another track please post them. Im trying to tie them all to aliens or downed saucers in some way. I had an idea for a jungle track and another for an atlantis track (underwater in tubes and caves). Any suggestions for a future release are welcomed. We will also be doing some open beta testing this time.

Here is a little screen to start this off:

I downloaded the build sent in for the Alienware comp and it was really good I liked it. Collision was a bit erky, but thats it. About a new track, sorry if there is already one like this (I haven't got past the first one ), but a suburbia track might be nice. Maybe take the track through a shopping centre?

I have some ideas which have to to with UFO'S

What about aztecs temples. Some people are thinking their gods were in fact aliens, because some of the sculptures (some space-helmets on the heads)

And an other idea : Nazca, it's in Peru, a place, where you can find big drawings on the floor. Some people are saying that these were used for UFO landings.
Nazca :

The last idea : there could be a map with many lil islands : the bermuda triangle (I'm sure all of these ships were lost because of UFOs

So, you're still working on it, huh? My requests:

Make the AI less unforgivable

I have yet to win a single race, and its a bit downhearting. Tweak it a bit, maybe add a few extra play modes. And if I may request something else, fix that hairpin turn in race one, most of the time, a person falls into the chasm

Cheers,
Preston

very glad to hear you will be continuing work on the game!

don't change the hairpin corner- all you have to do is do a jump-slide and it's a piece of cake! i thought the game was well-balanced.

improvements I'd like to see are slightly better collision (esp. between cars), and of course a few more tracks! the jungle sounds really cool! of course the "area 51" facility is always a possibility. sattelite dishes, going in and out of buildings with strange experiments inside, etc

@ Froggermon :
excellent idea to continue Roswell's Racer development
It's a really excellent game !!! Really fun
Can't wait to see new version and improvements

@ damokles : Inca idea is a really cool idea . . . Do you know an old Tv.Series called : "City of gold" , imagine Inca cities rounding the track .;... ( the top )

otherwise, you can add sci-fi tracks . Not ?
here are some ideas :
- Lunar ( with a lower gravity )
- Volcanic ( with lava, high use of red color )
- Futurist city ( like in Blade Runner or film of the same kind )
- In house ( like micro machines )
- Why not make a set of tracks for each solar system planet ??? Imagine Saturn with a big band in the sky . . .

I hope my ideas will be interesting

Bye and good continuation with your *excellent* game

The Inca-aztec thing could be in Jungle, like walaber said.

Just something funny I thought about the Bermuda triangle Idea :
To go from one Island to another, there shall be bridges or Ufo's trying to abduct you with a light beam (So you are lifted from the ground, and you can "jump" from one island to another), but if you stand still in the beams, you'll get to high and fall into the UFO and get abducted.

I think the AI is pretty much right for this kind of game - certainly not as hard as many commercial games (exclusing Ninty stuff). Just keep practising

Make sure you keep the text file in it where you can just change the single number to 2 to get all of the tracks (hint)

@ wik
Isn't that nice though How did you figure it out? Just some smart guessing?

Damoklese:
That Idea is nice but also alot of work.

Hexgear:
I still want to stick to the theme. After all the game is called Roswell Racer

So if anyone has any more ideas for tracks I would appreciate it. Im not going to be doing many more tracks because they are alot of work and I to tend to be a perfectionist on them. Oh and please post any details or any sketches you might have. Also if anyone else wants to do a track I can give you details on how things need to be set up. mail me for details; alecmoody@shellshockede.com

Though you might get sued for it, its been in a mario kart game (multiple) its been in FZero games, how bout Rainbow Road?

How about one track where your racing in a volcano?

On Saturns Rings?

Some city durning a thunderstorm?

Well...those are my suggestions for new tracks.

Cheers,
Preston

Here is a small media update. There is a giant hole in the track at one point (to be fixed tomarrow) but the rest of it looks much better. just extract it into your models directory.

A volcano track sounds interesting and relativly easy. I might end up doing it when I finish work on this track and the egypt track.

I think the driving pphysics themselfs are fine. Things like collisions and collision reactions need some work. Also some of the jumping and using ramps physics could use some work.

@ Preston : lol Union make forces

@ Froggermon Cool, volcano can be really cool if you want help for a track development, just tell me what is needed , and I'll try make an entire 1 for you because I found your game really really cool ( I'm interested developping a Volcano or System Solar planet Track. )

I think it's a kind of game that, with a story mode added ( with some thematic tracks ) should easily become a shareware product !

I agree with the volcano idea- that would make for a potentially GREAT level.

I think there should be a section where you cross over a lava lake on a rope bridge, with slots that you can see through to the lava below! animating the lava would be really cool, you could even add things like rising steam, etc.

it would make for a really atmospheric level, and with your talent I think you could make it great!

I was considering something like that . The track will be on the long side and you will start in the mountains/volcanos. Then you drop down into a valley area with pools of lava. I just realized that the media update I uploaded was missing some textures and some models i meant to include. I will post another one when I have a bit more done.

Free texture from the start of the volcano track. Cracked mud is a bitch to paint. http://www.limefly.net/html/modules.php?name=coppermine&file=displayimage&album=23&pos=0 I ended up using a heavily modified photo off of the net for the cracks.

I realized I forgot to back up my 3dsmax scene directory. I lost alot of stuff including the volcano and egypt tracks. Quite a setback. Work on roswell racer may continue. Its a pretty hard to stay motivated when you lose several hundred hours of work.
