The hard thing to understand about programming is you can make whatever the heck you want as long as you can figure out how to do it. Sprites are made just with programs like MS Paint saved as .bmp. There are also 3d modellers out here that allow you to model the guy, then take snapshots of him so you get really good looking 2d sprites.

Why not make a 3D RTS? They have better graphics than Galactic Battlegrounds.

How dedicated are you?

One day, I decided I was going to learn to program before I do anything else. After 2.5 days of sitting at a computer with no sleep, I made pac-man in Qbasic. There were no ghosts, and no fancy graphics(its QB), but I had a smiley face you could control with arrow keys around a maze made of text characters and you could eat dots and keep score. 2.5 days! I literally slept for 18 hours afterwards. My brain was fried, but gosh darn it I learned to code!

Heh. Ive coded well over 17 years now, and have been in about 4 or 5 groups and so far the only thing ive gotten from other people where some crappy logo's and 1 or 2 sprites.

In my experience, teams never work. You want something done GOOD, you need to do it yourself.

That's not necessarily true. You need to pick the right people for a team, and organize them appropriately. It is way better if you work with people you know in the real world of course. I've had my share of team members who sat around and talked about what they want to put into a game rather than trying to put it into the game, but right now my friend is doing most of the 3d art and is financing a good chunk of the project.

Hey now, you can have some decent sprite based graphics in qb. I mean, that's all I did for 9 years. I'm having some pretty good success with a team, but they're a local team. So we can meet in person on a regular basis. Otherwise, over the net, it's pretty difficult to coordinate what you have to do.

Yup.
