Just finished this simple world editor. Should be useful for making ingame landscapes quickly.

http://www.dbspot.com/hmm/Omega_v1.zip

features:
-raise/lower area
-smooth hills
-paint matrix
-load, scale, rotate, place and delete objects
-on screen intructions at all times

A demo is included to show you how to include the worlds in your games.

Please post any comments, as I am looking to improve it in the future, and maybe even use it as the basis for a simple RPG maker.

It just froze for me while trying to load the Ground.bmp ground texture . When I clicked on it once to be precise.

hmm...
Did you proceed to double click on 'ground.bmp'? I'm afraid the code I used for the file selector (from TDK man I believe) is a bit slow and unresponsive at times, so just keep clicking on the file and see what happens. I have to say, it has never frozen for me.

oh, and I don't think screenies are that vital for a world editor, but I'll see what I can do.

A carrot and a joystick? .

K I got it working. It looks good, and is simple to use. I think a rotate camera function would be good, maybe even at 90 degrees if you think inbetween would be hard. I think a smooth matrix function where it smooths the selected tiles out would be a handy addition. You should definitly be able to choose how big your matrix is (or is that in the loading function?).

Also give a limit or a warning when choosing tile size as lots of tiles causes a problem (I think that's why it froze). Also when you go to the far right of the matrix, the left arrow key becomes un-usable, i suggest you check if it happens at the top also.

The rotate cam function is in there (shift and arrowkeys). So is the ability to choose the size of your matrix; you type in the number of tiles you want in the editor, then when you come to load a map into your game, you input the tile size.

As for smoothing the matrix, I'll very easily add that (already have the code), but please keep suggestions coming.

That's pretty darn good! Something to compete with my world creator

But I did find one thing, after loading (not sure if it happens on new), if you move the cursor to the top right corner, you get stuck. The program doesn't jam, the selector just sticks there.

I can't wait to see this when you have a full fledged GUI on top of it.

Great work.

Whenever I try to load a ground image, it says that it cannot load the image (??). Also, when I try to load one of the examples, it says that the matrix does not exist.

Oh, yeah. Forgot to mention that sticking thing! In fact, I had forgot about it because I learnt to avoid moving the marker all the way across.

the tile i select gets stuck at the topright corner and i cant mvoe out

why are object keys so wierd?
7 and 4
8 and /
... they arent near eachother
maybe if you could select your own keys in options? or have them nicely arranged

also i think you should be able to select the frames per second.. that way, if you want just a tiny hill but the thing is going fsat, u set it slower so u can get it more precies..but if u want to raise a lot of land quickly, you set the fps high so it goes quicker

also maybe if you used shift to select more than one tile at a time?

how does the smooth hills function works?
will you give me the code?
I have been looking for a smooth hills code for a looong time now. and I can't figure it out how to do it.

btw, does anyone knows how to resize the matrix AFTER I have created it. "update matrix" does not do it..

This would be really useful for my Level Editor to the game I am currently working on. and It would 100% the whole Editor.

(I am using DBc)

have a look in the codebase, under matrix
i put a smooth matrix function in there ages ago that should be some use. the basic theory is that you get the average height of the points around a certain point, then set that point to the average of the 8 surrounding points.

Hmm, you should really post some screenies.

-Open up your editor
-Press PRINT-SCREEN key
-Open up MSPAINT or any other image editing software
-Press CONTROL+V or edit->paste
-Save the image as a jpg
-go to an image upload site, like www.posergallery.com
-Upload your image and post it here

note, if posergallery doesnt accept the jpg image, select the file path that appears on the site when you select an image and change the file extension (.JPG) to (.jpg)
