Just to let you know, I meant updating this code somebody has written, not the actual program

Yeah! I agree with THijs681. DBC need a new update...

BTW I got the update, but when i open DBC it says "Enhancemants... 29 Days" or something like that... Whats with that? I have the regestered version of DBC... why is it giving me the #of-days-left countdown?

the original DarkBasic is supposedly stable and solid with few bugs. But it is also outdated technology wise because of its interpeted nature. The original DarkBasic should be used to get your feet wet with the language at an affordable price (Amazon.com $19.99 USD)
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005V57T/qid=1079193378/sr=8-1/ref=pd_ka_1/104-0471338-1904769?v=glance&s=software&n=507846

I would like to see the enhancement pack become a part of Original Dark Basic making it a better value from The Game Creators web site. That would be the best upgrade to get people ready for DarkBasic pro by getting DLL support and Memblock support into the new users hands and then sell them the speed increase of Pro (from 3 to 7 times faster has been bandied about) as the upgrade reason besides the new technologies in DirectX 9.

It would be nice to get upgrades for Classic but they are trying to get a large qunity of user issues ironed out in DarkBasic Pro still as well as the upcoming First Person Shooter Creator to advance the company forward.

Now people look at speed and features that the original Dark Basic just can not provide so without a complete update to the engine it can not compete and a complete update would not be free because that complete update is DarkBasic Pro.

Sorry.

you guys aren't looking this in the right perspective...

it's like making a game(dark basic classic), and then making a sequel to that game (dark basic pro)... you cant expect the developers to stop work on the sequel and go and update/fix the problems with the original. Your supposed to learn from your mistakes and customer criticism and apply that to the sequel.

Like hitman 3 currently under developement, you don't expect the team to stop what thier doing and go and start making updates/fixes to hitman 2...

That limit is on the included enhancement pack that is part of the 1.13 patch. That includes the Memblock (memory control commands) and DLL use commands but not the actual patch itself. The commands are also a part of the Dark Matter 1 package or they can also be purchased separatly.

I don't use them either but those are the two main focus items that people discuss when they talk about the enhancement pack. You don't have to have either to use the program and create good games.

DBC is old but its very stable An update would be great but I think it isn't necessary.

If you want a FREE - FAST - STABLE - DIFFICULT language then go for C++, its much better than DarkBasic(pro) but hard to learn. 5 Lines in DB(C/PRO) would be 100+ lines in C++

"FREE - FAST - STABLE - DIFFICULT"
difficult? no, its just your perspective, since it doesnt use every day commands for syntax, it doesnt mean it's hard. it might be hard to GET USED to it, but after that, it'll be a breaze.
now that i got my two bits in, i shall leave and come back in a few weeks

I mean. If you try it, its very difficult (all those syntax errors, etc) I can write a little program with structures and such. But when you want to write a game, you'll have to learn how to create a
window, respond when windows bombards your program with strings, etc.
DB(C/PRO) does this for you. It good to start with, but the real programmers will laugh when you talk about DarkBasic.

Back to the topic:
If you really want more commands, you could create DLL'S or use existing ones.
The possibilies are endless!

There have been so many posts about this its rediculous, read the Dark Basic Classic forum. You really need to look at this from an ECONOMIC standpoint.

Do you see M$ still advertising for Windows 95 -_- NO!!! Its an old version, they update their new versions...duh.

Locked.
