I don't know of any. Try making one yourself . You can work out a tiling system, define the art style for your game, and decide how big or small you want the tiles to be.

Talk about ultimate customization .

or if you're too lazy just get RPGMaker or RPGToolkit (http://www.rpgtoolkit.com)... RPGToolit is more flexable, but RPGMaker is faster when it comes to making the game. Believe you me. ive spent the last year searching for game toolkits.

BTW the only thing BCDP doesn't mention is its a friken pain in the butt to work out a file reading system and even when you get to making one DB (if you have a crappy system like me) slows down to about a third of the origonal speed.

PC: Pentium II, 333Mhz, 128 Mb SDRAM, 20 & 4Gb hard drives, 8Mb Videocard, Windows XP, Direct X 9, half-dead CD burner, crappy moniter (15inch), DBC 1.13

Just any ol' level editor will do. Try cartography shop or code your own if you want real flexibility for yourself.

Or you can do a weapons, character, items & battle system, use MagicWindows and the worlds created with cartography shop and matrixes....Isn't easy but isn't impossible

Anybody got a Celeron???
....................................I feel so...alone.

Probably the first thing to do, Code Ninja, is write down what you need. Then you can browse around for different tools that suit your various needs.

Example:
I am making a first person shooter

I need:
3d Modeller- Must have easy to use bone support, export to .x, not be too expensive, be able to render long cutscenes, have built in UV editing, have some indoor-level editing tools and a heightmap reader, and have the potential to create high quality art.

2d Art Package- Must have basic 2d effect options, save to .png/.bmp/.jpg/.tga, have the ability to edit frames in an animation, and support transparency.

Terrain Creator- Must be easy to use, create smooth terrain. Export to heightmap or .x, allow for editing of large maps (1024x1024 to 2048x2048), must be royalty free.

Premade 3d Content-Need skyboxes, soldiers, weapons, and vehicles in .x format.

Level Object Editor- Have editable light placement/adjustment, loading objects and designating them as "explodable", "interactive", "AI", etc.

Music/Sound Editing- No MIDIs! Must connect to my electric keyboard, need to create sound effects.

Then once you've got that list downjust look around. I find that I like (for 3d)gameSpace, trueSpace3.2, Milkshape3d, (for 2d)Paint Shop Pro, (for terrain)Total Terrain, (for Music/sound)Pro Tools, Soundrec32, and for the level editor...I'm just making that myself.

If you cant answer that, how are you going to go about coding an entire RPG because well...level editors arent exactly the hardest part in an RPG

Code Ninja - Downloading any programs that would usually be shareware from Bit Torrent is ILLEGAL. It is STEALING programs which can get you sent to jail. If you think "oh they'll never catch me" when you publish a game, you have to show the publisher full ownership of the product you used. Which in the case of using the programs from Bit Torrent, you wouldnt have. Pirating is ILLEGAL and promoting it here is STRICTLY against forum rules.

If I catch you promoting illegal activity again, Ill report you to Rich. Youve been warned

I would definately take that advice. Pirating is seriously frowned on here. Don't think you'd like it if someone ripped off your software, would you?
I think there was a thread for a tile maker around...but you could write your own RPG Maker program in Dark Basic. It's all a matter of functions-for collisions, layers, maps, tiles, etc. I was thinking about doing one myself, it's on my pile of possible next programs.

Code Ninja - he suggested downloading illegal software (eg. something similiar to kazaa/warez) Whenever you release a game onto the internet, published or not, you best have legal software or you will get caught...and sued.

Other file sharing software can be just as bad or even worse. Get Spybot: Search and Destroy. It's a freebie and can really save your machine.

kazza, telsa, filetopia, etc. all do exactly the same as BitTorrent... therefore making them illegal.

CodeNinja you have no idea what you're talking about. Bit Torrent is NOT illegal. Hosting a .torrent file with a pirated copy of DB or any other copywrited software IS. Big difference. If I use Bit Torrent to share my freeware applications, how does that make it illegal? Do you even know what Bit Torrent is or how it works?

If you're going to go off on a rant about piracy (or anything), at least know what you're talking about.

Many well-known sites use Bit Torrent to distribute downloads.

okay, so i was i a little unclear with my comment but that is what i meant and also, i was not ranting nor was i about to start. Yes i do know how BitTorrent works and i use it frequently (provided that the software is legal [much thanx to RPGamer's clarification on that ]) anywho, i don't wanna start any flaming (or whatever you call it) so i will shut up for the night.

Ehh what I meant to be saying was Bit Torrent is illegal if you using it to download files that are normally payed for...ya Ill go edit my post now as its making it seem like the whole bit torrent thing is illegal. Its not illegal if your distributing freeware, but stuff like Adobe Photoshop needs to be payed for and thus would be illegal to download from BitTorrent.

And yes, KaZaA is illegal, unless its distributing things that are free. But downloading things such as songs/programs are illegal. I use iTunes which costs 99 cents per song, but I use the free song pepsi caps
