What if, you placed the camera on the models head. Because I know when the camera is in a model, that you can see through it. And you could make itso you could see your body, arms, and legs. It could be really cool in a first person shooter. If someone could implement it.

That would be neat if you could see your whole body, there would have to be some way around the camera clipping objects that are close up though......
We're using a model and putting the camera inside the head, except we're hiding the character object and using it for collision checking purposes only.

DUKE does this sorta....

While moving, the camera is third person (above and behind)
and during aiming, its behind the head while DUKE is ghosted.

i never play games, but i do read about them

You must have played some games. Like minesweeper, Space Invaderr, or Pacman. You MUST have played Pacman!

Thief 3 is cool! But I like 1 and 2 better.

Oh, and just so you guys know, if you can see the character then its NOT a first person shooter. It now becomes a third person shooter.

I know what you're saying, but the idea is it expands on the first person concept, by being able to look around yourself and see parts of your body it would hopefully reinforce the idea that you are actually this character--experiencing the game from a first person perspective.

I just installed that the other day. So far I hate the game. It came with my graphics card.

Every FPS games camera should be placed where the head is , it just wouldnt be right , I know what ur saying tho , when u move the camere u should be able to see ur body , some pl use that some dont , I'm sure its in some games already , but with an fps most ppl dont do it that way cause they're stingy with the polys

First person means that you are the character and are viewing interactions with enemies.

Third person is where you can see both your character and the enemy.

That idea you have is third person

I know that's the traditional concept, but if we could think outside the box. So would counterstrike, halo, and goldeneye be third person games? You can see their hands holding the guns. The camera would still be in the head, you looking out of the person's eyes. If you stand up right now and look down you can see your feet, yet our eyes are in our head so we view our world from a first person perspective. It's just bringing things closer to reality, as long as it fits in nicely with gameplay of course.

Btw, if you look at a lot of games the camera is positioned slightly above the head.

in timesplitters some characters have differnet heights but the camera is positioned in the same place for each characte, so if you are playing as a short character you still see from the same perspective as a taller character. This is kinda funny because when your in close with an enemy they look like they are trying to shoot you in the feet, because they see you as a short character.

MetroidPrime takes place inside Samus's head. You can freaking see her visor, one of the best games I have ever played in my life. TimeSplitters2 is only fun in multiplayer, for me that is.

Im with stupid...
