Hi! Just updated the graphics for our CV2 project.
Look below for some screenshots.

I know it's still looks kinda crappy, but it's
better than last version. Oh! These are just screens
from my graphical program; the playable one will be
updated when the programmer gets this level (duh!).

Wow nice graphic style but a bit cartoony for a game involving Vampires and such, I love the Sprite on 3d effect, top notch.

This project is gonna go places

Thanks again. The reason why it looks cartoony is because I
suck at making "realistic looking" stuff right now, but who
knows... maybe I learn someday...

Hehe...

Well it's a remake of an old NES games called Castlevania2 (you've
probably heard of it). But since it's just a project for school,
I'm not sure that it'll ever be complete . A BETA is under
construction though .

Edit
Oh yeah, I made some rearranged music too.

These are not fully complete though.

Oh yeah... is there any easy trick to make red sprites or some-
thing that pour out of enemies when hitting them, then sticking
to the ground for a while? You know, lots of blood and gore.

I think the graphics are fine. I don't think that there's a rule that says games involving vampires need to have graphics that look a certain way. The screenshots remind me of a readysoft game for the amiga called Wrath of the Demon. Very cool paralaxing game. I like this style, everything looks nice to me. Only advice I would offer is to use alpha channels and blend some of your edges so they're softer and don't look digital, crunchy or hard against the background.

Use the particle system with graphics that look like blood. Then paste a splatter pattern to your matrix tile location. That's about as easy as you can get.

Ugh... thanks for the positive feedback (though I don't think that
I deserve it )!

Here's some updated screens with the lighting:

There's about 250 objects now and a 100 of them are flowers hehe...
And I don't even like flowers...

Edit
Ugh, btw Tape... you mean Alpha Blending in the art-program
or in DB? If the latter, We use DB Classic so does it support
that? And... ugh are there any examples of Alpha blending?

its great. theres a little pixelation on the alpha areas but its very creative already. You may want to try improving the pixelation edges with another format, perhaps DDS or PNG

Yeah, I'm positive that DarkBASIC (classic) has alpha... From what I remember of it. It's been like 2 years since I looked at classic. You'd want to create your images in a paint package using an alpha channel and blend your edges of your image. You'd then save the finnished work as a png file. There were some great MechWarrior 4 tutorials that showed you how to make decals for the mech's, but I can't seem to find those anymore.

My eyes are liking your style of graphics, personally I lean toward cartoony graphics and this certainly does look cartoony, It looks great so far.

Adobe Photoshop has alpha blending (at least v6 does, anyway).

Thanks! Well as you may have noticed too, there still are some
areas on the level, but I can't figure out what to pu there...
I was thinking of some more groundtextures with leaves and other
stuff lying on the ground and maybe some kind of fog that makes
the whole forest look a bit more creepy or something.
Any suggestions on what you can find in a forest except flowers,
trees and bushes (and skeletons of course )?
Oh yeah... some clouds in the sky behind are planned too...

And btw, is there any easy and non-too-much-FPS-consuming code for
various kinds of critters (birds etc) that move around in random
directions out there?

I'm sorry I can't offer info on your environmental creature AI, but I must come back to praise this work more. Your earlier shots with just a simple grass and tree with a path deal were smooth and stylish, and when I saw these shots I was amazed! Talk about potential.

Thanks for the comments! I've just uploaded the graphical test
in my log for school, so I guess you want to try it out too .

http://pa1201.port5.com/CV2_Graphical_Test.zip

If you find any strange stuff or things that should
be in the forest as well, please tell me. Your FPS
would be nice to know too. Oh yeah... it's not finished
yet, but I've already told you that didn't I?

Controls (yep, there are some):
Left/Right -keys = Move camera
Ctrl = Speed up Camera
Space = Show/Hide FPS (doesn't work sometimes)

It realy funny how a something as simple as not having realistic grafics and having to replace them with pixalated cartoony ones can result in a great style.

The grafics remind me of snes games except in 3d if you decide to go with more realistic grafics you should put the current build away and use it to make a different game later as the style is great, and it could be used to make a great game.

Keep up the good work
