yeah pretty valid point Ken...
the only way to really compare the consoles is thier technical abilities;
Alot of point for each console are quite stupid.
My vote goes to the GameCube, for the simple reason
Simply because I prefer Nintendo, full-stop.
Other reasons though include;
Easiest Controller to use, with proper analog. Although the PS2 boasts analog, very very few games use it ... it is only actually 2 state Min/Max Signal, plus it's damn hard to know if your actually doing Min/Max. The GC only has 2 Analog buttons, L/R however they are extremely easy to use and implimented in alot of games like Mario Kart, Waverunner & Soul Calibre 2.
Graphically it has some of the most impressive titles i've ever seen.
Resident Evil Zero / 4
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles
Pikmin
Zela : The Wind Waker
Combine this with the Automatic (and no slow-down) ability to use HDTVs, these games look fantastic no matter the screen you use.
The machine is portable. It is small and light enough to take anywhere, with the 5" TFT screen + Battery Pack or Car Adapter you can literally game anywhere you want with it.
The games are cheap!!! For the gamecube I pay around £35 for a brand new release, if i pre-order £30. Compare this to the £45-50 that I pay for X-Box or PS2 games, this often means that I end up waiting until a game is actually available second hand before i get it for the other consoles.
GameBoy Advance / DS Connectivity. This enhances alot of games by giving you extra controllers, screens or even downloadable games to play on your GameBoy.
Free Hardware if your game requires it. Often Nintendo will bundle a peice of hardware with a game if you will require it, suchas a Nintendo GBA Cable w.Final Fantasy ... or a free 4Mbit memory card with Pokémon Colosseum.
Better Quality games assured. Unlike the X-Box and PS2, the GameCube doesn't get any games not pre-approved by Nintendo.
Well there are exceptions like Spyro, but that appears to be the only one i've found. All other games i've had an oppertunity to play have been top notch quality.
Is the least prone to crashing. Most probably have crashed thier machines yet, however each machine has been tested for crashing extensively after there was a hoohar about the PS2 crashing.
Surprisingly the X-Box is not the most unstable, infact the PS2 is when playing PS1 games. (FFVII totally screws up if you play it for more then 2hrs and refuses to fix itself until you completely turn off the main machine power)
GameDiscs are designed to resist damage. As any gamer will know, the more you play a cd/dvd the more it'll get scratched until it becomes unplayable. Again the X-Box isn't the worst at this, the PS2 is due to some problem with the DvD lens, but this combined with the fact the game dvd's cannot take much damage and dvd movies if even slightly damaged just will *not* play at all.
There is also the fact of the price to get the machines in the first place.
GameCube £80
X-Box £130
PS2 £140
... X-Box's most famous game Halo, well Nintendo's answer is Metroid Prime which i dunno anyone who hasn't played it and loved it. PS2's most famous game MGS2, well Nintendo have Twin Snakes which is the first remade around the MGS2 engine... only with better graphics than the PS2.
We combine this with a Subpixel Anti-Alaising Processor which allows the console to produce ATi's superior quality 4x MultiSampling ... it isn't hard to see which console is built for gaming.
