would you mind removing that link on your signature that locks people out.
I would have expected more from a user of your calibre.

Whoa. Lighten up. It's only going to get each person once (or never).

It's not that bad and it teaches you to look at what you're clicking on.

It also teaches you that some people are a-holes. And yes, that was a joke.

It warned you not to click it but if you try to visit "1tg46's" web page there is no warning.

Go here:
http://darkbasicpro.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=31830&b=2
And click 1tg46's web button.

Well I got REALLY annoyed the other day when a certain user posted a link to a website that popped up loads of windows and then diverted to the db logout page. I was furious. There was no indication in the link it would log me out. Obviously a plain link that I can see on the screen may be a different story like said users siggy.

I could not remember which email address I used as my login and had to trawl through loads of bits of paper to find it.

I agree with indi that these links should be banned. An easy option would be for Rich to test for the URL when rendering links in his PHP and stop them appearing.

If no warning is given, the fair enough. But in this case there is a clear warning about not clicking.

View->Status Bar

That should be more than enough. It should be common practice to inspect a link before pressing it anyway. If the link is suspicious then better not press it.

Besides, his sig is kinda funny anyway.

edit: @indi, Why, did you press DavidT's logout link

I think it is a bit unfair to go questioning my calibre as a member, I have seen you make questionable actions in the past but I never decided to start topics over it.

---

I am sorry Indi if my sig has offended you in any way - I thought after Bean's multiple topics the matter would be closed.

I did start a topic asking if people did find it annoying after Bean complained, but I didn't receive any negative feedback.

I was going to remove the link until I saw TCA's and RobK's replies and the support from others.

Now you have seen what others think, if you still think it's unreasonable to keep the link I will remove it.

Do not, whatever you do, click this link
In light of a recent complaint, we again advise you not to click the above link.

I always try to keep the status bar visible and preview links. Perhaps some of us are more paranoid than others. [Of course, I also run a friewall, two virus scanners, and use three spy/pest detection tools from time to time.]

there is no fun in it for the users who click on it, and what fun is it for you anyway? it only annoys the users who click on it...

we all know not to step off the curb into traffic when there is a red light warning us. His link says "don't click me", when you mouse over the link the browser displays the destination. I don't think David needs to take the link off, I think users who click it need to learn to not click without knowing what they are clicking first. Not to mention you can right-click any web object and see it's properties before following the click.

red lights are warnings that are known around the globe. 'Do not, whatever you do, click this link', some users may think it's a joke and may think it actually leads to his webpage or something like that...

what are you trying to achieve with that link?

yes, but the following points remain:

-the browser shows you where you are going to go, before you go
-you can right-click to interrogate further, before you go

buyer beware.

and still it's no argument to keep it there, some users don't have the habbit of lookin up where a link actually links to or some don't have a statusbar because they are browsing in full-screen mode(like me)

Some people are way too uptight it takes all of six seconds to log back in again, and people really should look at link URLs before clicking them. Seriously.

wouldn't take longer to remove it and saves about clicked_users*6 seconds of the time people do useless things

You got it in one Mouse

Personally, i check EVERY link before I click it... Just a habit I got into after been given a few bad links to certain images that have given me occasional, very bad nightmares since.

And on top of that, when someone puts up a sign saying "Don't Press This Big Red Shiny Button No Matter What You Do", they are expecting some idiot to press the button just to see what happens. And it serves then right that it was the button to activate the nerve gas... We all must do our part to rid the gene pool of the scum that sinks to the bottom.

Just keep smiling... And Back away really slowly...

Jess.

Mussi,

It begs the question to say "Is it that hard to remove it". HE SHOULDN'T HAVE TO - people are responsible for their own actions!

Patrick Norton of Tech TV's The Screen Savers said it best when he said:

Okay this is getting a bit awkward.

I was ready to remove it when asked. But the sheer volumes of people saying that it's no problem - including two mods - makes things very awkward indeed.

I'm leaving the final decision to indi.

Errr...that's totally different from "is it THAT hard to just log back in?" It's somebody's signature, and they can have whatever they want in it, so long as it isn't highly inappropriate (which, IMHO, Dave's sig isn't).

I'm not one that looks at the detination of every link before I click it. Maybe it should be habbit, but it is not. However, a link that says "DO NOT CLICK ME", gets me curious.
I didn't click-it and I did look at the destination in this case. I also thought it was funny as hell. Not only funny that it was original, but I also laughed at how funny it would have been if I would have fell for it. I could just picture myself saying... "What the...DOH!".
I also think it is funny that it is considered offesive to some people. Get over it, it is a joke. If you fell for it, then have a laugh at yourself. Maybe the people that are getting mad about it are then ones that fell for it TWICE. lol

you guys are taking this way too serious! indi asked a question... do you mind removing the link? if you don't mind then remove it, if you do mind then don't.

the reason why i would click on a link that specificaly states "Do not, whatever you do, click this link" still baffles me

To be honest, I fell for it-- I was thinking while clicking it, 'Why the heck would I click this'? and wasn't really surprised when the logout page loaded-- really funny though, I mean, it just shows how automatic link-clicking can grow to be

Me, as the curious person I am, clicked the link right as soon as I noticed it
I didn't get mad, I just laughed and faced that i was just Punk'D. If everyone got this uptight about a little joke, then think of how fast the show Punk'D on MTV would go off the air.
