Hey anybody want to share any AI stuff for dbClassic. Mainly I am interested in creating characters that can do stuff on their on when they are not being used or in there idle time. Something where they go sit down or go eat and so on without a programmed course of action.

I have been using timers and random commands but it doesn't seem to be interesting enough. I want to make something with some jazz.

Thanks everyone,

Beth

Hey,

This is the wrong place for this post. You'll better take it to "Team requests". You might have more succes there.

you know, the AI has nothing to do with the animation...

Actually, she's not requesting an AI coder for her team as much as someone to share info with. If you're a DB coder and you are not asking a newb question, this is EXACTLY the right place to ask.

Dream Keeper, maybe you should read beyond the title next time.

3beth, you might want to check out this site, Amit's collection of threads and articles is top notch and there is (of course) a section on AI. It's not written specifically for DB, but I think some of the links might help.

Hi everybody,

Taz is exactly correct, I am not looking for a team here, I just want to share and dicuss new ideals on writing AI programs in dbc. I have been wanting to improve our AI programs and learn more in the process, especially about random timer and choices that make characters act more like live people. I am not interested in animation in this post at the present, the AI stuff hasn't even started.

Taz, thanks for the info on the website its some heavy reading, I will take most of the night to read it but it has some useful stuff.

I will also make some post on my scripts I have now if anybody is interested.

Thanks everyone,

Beth

Have several actions preprogrammed. Assign each action a number. Randomly choose a new number, either after each action is completed, or after a certain time limit.
You could take the idea farther, and give certain actions a higher frequency of occurence.

Example:
A person finishes a meal. They are more likely to use the bathroom afterwards.

A person just used the bathroom. They are very unlikely to use that action again within the next X minutes.

I think you might want to look at behaviour modelling.
