I can't leave this forum now. I need so much help with DB pro since I left. As you all know I'm a newbie. But I will stop spamming and leave that to Z. I really do own darkbasic pro in case any of you were wondering if I was just on this site to spam. I have loved the thought of making my own games since I was around 4 or 5 when I got Sega Genisis. And in September my friend told me about Darkbasic and I bought it. Just recently I bought DB Pro. So here I am, a game developer in his early teens, trying to create a game worthwhile, with the help of you guys. Moderators, please lock this thread because I don't want anyone responding to it. I just want them to read it. Plus I know a couple of people who will critisize the living crap outta me in their replies.

@Code2Kill: Sorry man

I think it was only the one (Drumnology) but besides that , its not exactly the action of a 'mature' moderator. Given the problems lately with mindless noobs ,you shouldnt be trying to create conflict between the two sites. Given your age and qualifications I would have expected more.

Only the annoying ones... And I didn't send - I suggested they visit LLRGT. Whether they do or not is up to them.

If anyones a rebellious geek it's me!

I smokea-da-dopea while I code
I'm only 12st
I've gone off pizza
I swear like a trooper
I'm 6 foot tall
I've had at least 1 girlfriend

But spending most of your time in front of PC's does sorta trap you in that 'geek' species .

The thing is that I know nobody who uses computers as much as me, certainly no coders, so I have nobody to talk code to - I do bore my friends with it sometimes though. At least I'll get to bore some new people at the convo .

Raven,
A lot of people hate you, not just Danny. When you started posting on the LLRGT (as GIR) it was pointed out to the mods. I know, because I'm the one that pointed it out. I also asked the mods to give you another chance over there. They agreed. So, in fact, your ban over there was NOT carried over. You have also acted mature and respectful in your postings at LLRGT. There has been no reason for you to be banned (yet). That is why you can continue to post there. That is why you are welcome there.

TCA,
Actions like that from a mod of these forums is a direct reflection of some of the problems that these boards suffer from.

The problem is you're trying shifting this forum's spammers onto another forum. The whole point of LLRGT is it's a select group of programmers/artists who work with DBpro and don't want the mindless spam because it's a place where they can discuss their ideas among friends.

This forum has a problem with spam and don't you think it's slightly unfair you forcing it upon another happy community, because it's not going to go away here?

But exactly how many spammers do you have at LLRGT?

Typically they're booted quickly because LLRGT is a slower board and the mods tend to get a lot of feedback from regulars, so they go there, realise that they can't just run amock and get bored with the lack of feedback before disapearing. Or sometimes it's the case that they want to diversify with other languages and would get more help at LLRGT.
Is that really such a bad thing?

I use both boards, and probably always will - but newbies always come here first so the mods here have to deal with them - when they get banned or leave, a fresh start at RGT is often the best route.

No, it only a suggestion - the choice was up to the user, of which there was a 50% chance of going to LLRGT or staying here.

so am I to understand that the TGC forums are considered a spawning-ground sesspool for spammers and lamers, somewhat of a filter of sorts - while llrgt is considered an upperclass more-professional-minded forum...?

Are you referring to this forum? I see a tremendous problem here. People come here and annoy the crap out of everybody constantly, and they're not kicked off here permanently. That, my friend, is the problem.

It is also why I will probably stop coming here altogether. The other day I got an email from a certain Drumnology character begging and pleading to give him something for free. Here I was, thinking this was a site where the majority of people enjoy "talking code". The truth is this is a site for many immature idiots who enjoy "annoying the only sane people left".

EDIT: I do feel sorry for *some* of the mods here who don't have the power to ban people themselves. This power should be given to the mods who actually post here everyday, not only 1 or 2 who are never around.

As for the Drumology e-mail - I wouldn't be surprised if everyone received one. Thats simple to solve by blocking the e-mail address.

Yes, it would be nice to ban people - unfortunately Rich is the only one who can. This may be improved with the new site.

I don't think the forum has ever been the same since RGT went down... but when i last noted about how the forum was, everyone claimed i was just crazy cause everything was fine.
It's not been fine for almost 18months now, wish we had our old forum style and people back.

This place feels far too much like RGT now ... which imo isn't a good thing

When you look at the previous posts over at RGT, in fact most of the time it takes at least an hour for 5 messages to be posted, IMO that's not the RGT I remember, you could post screenshots, go for a pee, and there'd be replies before you got back. Guys abondoning us certainly did a lot of damage to the community, not sure exactly why but it seems like we have far less of the keen, enthusiastic newbie and more of the irritating little oinks that do little more than waste helpful users time.

It definately has it's slow days. I read both forums. I know you do to Van. Even though the speed is generally a lot slower there, the speed of good content is about the same. As I am starting to work more exclusively with C++, it is also nice to be able to discuss that somewhere. Another problem here is the forums are dead slow on dial-up. I have T1 at work, and they are even slow there most of the time. Anyway, I will continue to read both boards.
What I don't understand is why there is friction between the 2 communities. TCA can deny wrong-doing for trying to send spammers in RGT's direction, but I think he knows better. I do know that as a moderator for a company's forum, you are representing that company's interests. I highly doubt that is something that TGC would condone.

Attitudes mainly.
First there was friction because I was on here and RGTers didn't like me, so that made this board 'bad'

Second when they finally came here they insulted everything about our boards.

Thirdly they changed our boards into RGT.

What annoys me even more is that LLRGT has become to a degree what this forum used to be like, it is a much better atmosphere to be in and just check up on once in a while. The Clause here happens to be that everyone there truely does dislike me and a good few users are more than happy to take pops at every turn.

Just look at my last thread there. It's even more a shame that even here I can't get away from those sort of bastard users.
Pisses me of a bit that what has happened is rather than two happy and productive communities in thier own rights have become 2 quite disfunctional communities on the whole.

Even more so as a place where some of the users here loved to once hang out are either now outcasts in thier own 'home' so to speak.
If you look around alot of the original forum users here have left, either run out, tired of what this place has become and such.

Just look at it, about the only users still left here from when Apollo started are those users who are moderators or a major help to the community.

I know our original forum was slow and often boring, but I prefered it. Ya know we had no bildge posts, newbies got the help they wanted and became productive or if they were like Z/C-M-C got bored and left, people like myself and bullseyes could sit down and discuss shaders without having to worry about anyone comming in and making smart-arse remarks.

GuyS leaving not only hurt RGT but it seriously hurt this forum as well. It does kinda hurt how things have turned out, and I don't think a new forum is going to change any of this...

Perhaps if Rich made another forum, one where old apollo users could hang out away from the mainstream people. I think I would really like that, being able to develop with other older users in peace and away from this place.

The restricted area should be nice - somewhere that the older users (in terms of DB experience) can discuss more technical stuff properly.

GuyS' original forum problem and subsequant leave, ment RGT members down-poured into here.
This forum just wasn't ready for a) that many additional users, b) people who weren't used to having such a low moderated forum.

Rather than respecting how this forum worked, the RGT membered treated this place like thier forum. And the lapse of Moderated Supervision ment they were 10X worse on here than they would normally be on RGT.

Although it didn't seem bad at the time, it was a Catalyst for something which is still getting progressively worse.
Rich said that they'd only be here temporarily so we had to let them adjust, but they clearly didn't adjust to our ways. Instead they altered this forum to thiers.

By the time the majority had left for LLRGT which was put up the damage was already done. Some members still terrorise this place with thier attitudes (Hense why members like myself and yourself end up locking horns with a few of these members on more than few occasions), but more over it was a knock on effect because during that time we recieved a number of exclusive newbies, and they saw how the forum was working during that time rather than how it would normally work, as such they took it as green that, that behaviour was 'standard', which then ment it continued followed by other newbies.

Then the whole Blitz problem soon after that because some dumbass RGT members were taking it out on them so they came here.
LLRGT is now harder to find and as such no longer a target for newbies or blitzers, add to that they now have places to contain each type of person and thier personal language preferences, with a much smaller userbase loyal to just there really.

It might seem weird looking at it from the small picture, but on the big picture GuyS leaving hurt everyone.
Not because of the fact he left, but the way he just vanished.
If there was a safety net for him disappearing, some sort of backup plan it would've been good but then kinda defeated the whole point behind it.

Regardless of the histories of each place and how they have become what they are, both boards serve a good purpose. This board is TGC's board that covers TGC's products. LLRGT has evolved to a more general programming board. I enjoy reading both, but would consider LLRGT more of my "home" than this one.

I used to be one of those people that took pop-shots at you Raven. For the most part, I think you made the bed that you lie in. The reason that I've backed-off of that fight is because of our civil conversation about the topic via PM's at LLRGT. I pulled no punches and got some stuff off of my chest. You stayed respectfull and heard me out. You have also acted respectfull at LLRGT (so far).

Bottom line (and the only reason that I posted anything in this topic) is that pointing spammers to ANY other forum is a childish act that will only cause more problems in BOTH forums. As a mod, you set the example for the user base. I don't think that kind of "example" sets a very good standard. When newbies start pulling similar acts things are bound to escalate. That will only increase the problems that occur here.

Didn't Rich say somthing about a "Vet's only" forum a while ago. I could only hope that it is implemented into the next version of Apollo.

But how do you decide who goes on this Vets forum? Cos i would love to be on there, but I haven't actually released anything to the public yet and don't really appear to be an 'oldbie'
