I have a couple of questions for you.

I have been enlightened by some of the people in my IRC channel.

1. Does anybody here think i am a power mad egotistical maniac of some sort who feels he must continually dominate the irc channel.

2. Do i generally treat users unfairly, or am I liberal in what i do.

Its just that, of late, i really dont want to be running that cesspit, And i welcome all manners of mature and intellectual conversation we have in there. Do i ever force topics of discussion? Are there a strict set of rules which must be obeyed for you to participate in the discussions. If anybody thinks i am doing it wrong and can do a better job, then ownership is yours.

The 3d chat is coming...
In the meantime, come in the IRC. Ask me for details!!.

1. Not entirely. In a way, some of the decisions you make tend to piss me off (like that story I was telling in the chat a few minutes ago-- it wasn't harming anyone, it was fiction, and Mnem, if you were truly offended by me saying you saved my life, then I'm sorry). You are not power hungry, but you and the other ops should try to do a better job to keep the IRC channel open to any kind of chats. I know its a place where DarkBasic users can ask for help, but I think the main purpose of the chat should be a place where DarkBasic users can converge to chat about their life, events, etc. If a user truly needed help very bad, they could always post on the forums (although instant help is good sometimes).
Errm, one last statement, I thought that you were trying to hide something when you told me I couldnt view the logs of the chat.

Quick answer:No -- Long Answer: You gotta shape up your decision making.

2. Do you generally treat users unfairly/poorly? No. You are good not to be biased against anyone. But your decision making comes into play. In the current drama with Jimmy, you started getting him riled up by making some bad choices.

Mnem, you are a good leader, but some things just have to shape up (a lot of what I said in the first paragraph). Don't be offended by what I have said here, I hope we are still pals.

I can fully understand if Mnem's had it with the stress of dealing with smacktards and good people annoyed with the smacktards an the bad people and bad people annoyed with the smacktards and the good people. But, uh, does Jimmy REALLY have the channel?

If he does, I'm sure Mnem will find a new network, and create a new official channel, he'll own it again, and he'll only invite those he trusts and respects to the channel. Kinda like LLRGT vs. Apollo, less n00bs over there, more over here. Less jackasses over there, more over here. Kinda like that, it'll be the LLRGT of DarkBasic IRC chat (without the blitz talk).

If not, well I think its a pretty cruel joke...

Cheers,
Preston

It isnt fair to give jimmy a chance, there are far more people who deserve it better than him. I did what i did because i was angry and i wanted to get shut of it, at least for the time being. I wish i would have given it to someone more deserving though.

The room is good. When Mnemonix & Lag are in there.
It is british nightime when most of us are asleep the smacktards come out.

There is something wrong somewhere when the Network Admin is bitching about problems.
Personally I gave up on the room a few days ago Mne, I don't doubt that you've not just been told something is wrong with the room but who are the major problem too.

my my my i go away and the room falls to bits. :p

im sure everyone likes it when im talking in the room. because i keep an eye on things. the only thing i get strict is people boasting about blitz in the room. i tell them to stop it otherwise a kick.

sounds fair? because its a darkbasic chat room. i think mne has done a good job so far.

if anyone has any doubt about the network come to me, because i can get things done. (personally i think some admins are slackers)

if you would like to talk to me private about the room or network, send me a email (r.nash@ntlworld.com) put in the subject (chattingaway)

before i went on holiday last friday i noticed jimmy was making a few wrong descisions. me and cfc noticed that.

raven thanks for the comment, come back when you want. some users there actually like you! and then there's some that think you bs. so just ignore them people.

i dont know what has been going on the last week or so. if anyone has logs, send me them.

the move was suppost to help everyone. but all i can see some users are turning away from the room, that has even got tgc to display it on the website and in the recent newsletter!

come on, get back in there and make it the decent room that it's suppost to be!

sure questions dont pop up much in there, but most of us know eachother, its a nice friendly room if you get to know us

enough of my rant. i'll be back sunday to fully find out whats been going on and would like to speak to a few people.

I think Mnem was doing a fine job, and if some people in there don't agree with it, let them come out and tell us why. I agree with lag about [jimmy]. Me and [jimmy] had a bit of a bust-up and I banned him because he kept harassing another op, and I honestly do not think he is fit to lead the channel. Hell, I've never ever seen him do anything than pass smart comments, or kick people for the wrong reasons.

*sigh*

This really is a mess. It looks like it didn't go as well as I'd hoped when I left last night. I think if Mnem, Jerico2day and a few other people could sit down and talk about it for a while we'd be able to sort out a good system, but as long as certain other people keep playing drama queen this is never going to get any better.

I've only been going onto the irc channel for a couple weeks but here's my observations.

The folks there are very good about helping one another with code problems. Generally, anyone who knows a solution puts it forward for you.

There seems to be problems when things other than DB are discussed. When general banter comes into play, things have (generally) degenerated into slugfests. I have noticed a few occasions when someone asks for code help during one of these slugfests and gets completely ignored because the regular patrons are going at it.

I don't really have a problem with general banter going on in the channel, but if someone asks for help, it should stop and go to PM.

There's probably other stuff I should mention, but I can't remember it at the moment.

Well i am finnally gonna let the world here my opinion, and a small story to set up my opinion(well the world outside).

Recently Jimmy was banned (a result of a arguement with ladyslipr, jerico2day, and kent). I talked to a few of the people involved, got teh logs of all of the words exchanged (including PM's ). I thought it was a fair decision in the end to unban jimmy, although ladyslipr did it about 1 minute before the decision.

Well now we are at today. Mnem is pissed... jimmy is owner, and 3 or 4 ops (well us ops that we're mnems channel ops) are angry. Now on tot he opinion...

I personally think mnem did a stupid as f*ck thing just giving the channel away like that, although as it was in anger, i can't put it against him. As soon as jimmy took power the op list changed (some good some bad.... but too many at first).

As jimmy is the owner and is trying to "re-structre" the channel i have pitched in any ideas. As much as i don't agree with ownership of the channel, i do this for the welfare of the channel. As i have seen so far, he has kept most of the channel operaters the same.... added a few and took a few away (cough, ladyslipr and j2d).

Now to answer mnems questions:

@1 Does anybody here think i am a power mad egotistical maniac of some sort who feels he must continually dominate the irc channel.

How can you be? You're the (well we're) the f*cking owner. Can't dominate much more then that. So really the thought of that is just absurd.

@2 Do i generally treat users unfairly, or am I liberal in what i do.

I belive you treated users with upright fairity... although i did not agree with ALL of your decisions, i will say you we're an owner who did a damn fine job. I will also say that from when the channel started over a year ago, i have been in there, and have watched you progress through knowledge of IRC and great ownership.

Just picking through the topic now...

About raven:

You know I hate you. Does that mean we haven't conversed for hours without bringing on the hatred.... no. Everyonce in a while it comes back. The question at mind though is, do i mind you there.

The answer is no. As o_0 said, we can have nice adult conversations.

Quote: "my my my i go away and the room falls to bits. :p
"

Well lag, thats how i was, well kinda. I come home from work to see jimmy the owner.... and 13 emails about this (not counting the amount of IM's when i signed in on MSN).

Quote: " I think if Mnem, Jerico2day and a few other people could sit down and talk about it for a while we'd be able to sort out a good system, "

Heh, i said that the night before. Well not in those words.... you know what i mean.

Quote: "It isnt fair to give jimmy a chance, there are far more people who deserve it better than him. I did what i did because i was angry and i wanted to get shut of it, at least for the time being. I wish i would have given it to someone more deserving though.
"

Cough!!! LAG Cough!!!

Speaking for real, he has been there for a long time. He spent countless hours working on the damn thing. Hell, the people at Foreverchat (yeah remember "El Banno from teh lisa teh bitch DAY?".... i still have not made up that lost sleep.) thought he was the owner.

But anyway, i'll stay in the channel.... but, if any signifagant rules are made (no swearing, ect...) you can't really expect me to follow them.... so bleh.

And yes i will still help jimmy with ideas.... remember, for the channel's sake, still visit you all

Hehe, I doubt you got the conversation me an Jimmy had when he'd just got banned and I was trying to sort it out. It wasn't very nice. To be fair to him, he did offer me ops when he became owner of the channel (which I refused). I must agree with Mouse though (*gasp*), some people are being a bit melodramatic about this. FFS, it's an irc channel, not the end of the world.

But on the other hand it is a community IRC channel that could be a nice place to hang around in (and it seems to be now that it's cooled down), so it's not nothing either .

I'm glad someone other than someone in particular got control of the place. Someone in particular is far too tyranical and biased in his decisions . As things stand it's pretty good-- Jimmy's done a good job IMHO.

I offered everyone that was OP before an OP position now, even Jerico.
With lady I told jerico she would need to get SOME darkbasic skillz and she could be hop again. So that's an offer.. kinda.

So, if they aren't OP now it was their choice.

There are more ops now because they are no longer there to "control" the channel and to discipline the members. They are there to help people out and just keep it a nice relaxed room.
