What could they possibly texture? A kaleidoscope?

They have no use except as pictures to look at. Now that you mention it, the program is a like a kaleidoscope.

They can be used as screen backgrounds or web page backgrounds. They could be used to texture objects. However, like I said, just for fun - not a serious thing. I'm sorry if I offended anyone.

...but that "heightmap" doesn't align in any way shape or form with the terrain.

There are a few places where I could really see kaleidoscope textures: the polished floor of a Persian palace, the ceiling of a temple, painted/stained glass windows, fancy rugs, hippy t-shirts, and perhaps spell or other optical effects. [Imagine a trippy game where the lens flare from the sun was a ghosted kaleidoscope image.]

So, I think there is merit for it. Good job.

Yes it is. Really I was just showing off - making a landscape out of whatever in 15 minutes, or maybe just having a little fun. Sometimes its okay to have fun, even with plastiscene... however you spell that.

Thanks Zircher.

The image was saved without blurring and tiled 80x60 on an 80x60 matrix.

To be completely honest, I'd rather use authentic textures than some random generated lines and colors...

There's no randoms in the program, just geometry.

I've been surprised by the number of downloads. I'm developing it some more. There should be an update soon.

Thanks. There's an update. Now it does about 5 billion images. Also, made it easier to use - no bells or whistles, just simple, about 1MB.

Have a look at my Worldmaker program if you like:
http://www.awfuldarkforest.com/worldmaker.html
There are some heightmaps included. You can also:
-make height maps by drawing directly on the screen
-make a matrix with a height map
-make a height map from a matrix
-modify the matrix/height map with a variety of randomizer and other terrain tools
-make landscape textures from height maps
Its wysiwyg, easy to use, has a help manual, writes code for DBP, and does lots of other things to make it easy to build worlds for games. It's especially good for experimenting and learning, since you can make lots of worlds quickly.
Also, its free.

Worldmaker uses DBP Netlib.dll. You need .Net Framework 1.1. You can get it here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/netframework/downloads/framework1_1/

I already downloaded that because i thought that might be the problem but then i went to go click on it agian and it said (Failed to load DLL (1:dbp_netlib_cpp.dll) ) agian (Do you put netlib.dll in the worldmaker folder?)

Netlib.dll should be in the worldmaker folder already. You shouldn't have to do anything about that. Hmmmm. I wonder if you have the .net framework 1.1 installed ok. Are you using windows xp with directx9?

You might try visiting CattleRustler's web site and getting the netlib package (small download). You don't need that for worldmaker, but you may find it useful for your programs and it will let you see if thats the problem.

Don't smash your computer.lol

It appears that the problem is not with worldmaker if you can't get the .dll to work apart from worldmaker. However, I'm working on an update that should be ready in a few days. Mostly it's just small improvements. I'll be testing it on friends' computers and I'll let you know when it's uploaded. I may learn something from testing it that can help. Meanwhile, maybe someone reading this can offer a suggestion.
