Hey there

i'm making a game at the moment (yeah really) and i want to start on the music. I really want to do it all in midi but i don't have a good sequencer. Does anyone know any good and preferably free midi sequencers? I'm not really bothered about using samples but want to be able to make and export midi files.

thanks for your attention

sorry, i meant a computer sequencer, like cubase or something only less complicated or whatever, i mean i am willing to pay something but i want a reasonably simple piece of software, and of course the audio tracks arn't very important, just the midi capabilities

Get Cakewalk Home Studio for under $100. It's got midi and audio capabilities. It comes with some really cool synths and soundfonts. You can convert your midi to audio pretty simply. Plenty of FX to add on your midi tracks too.

I wouldn't recommend just going MIDI because each sound card has its own midi instruments which may or may not produce the sound you want. Some rare sound cards don't even have synth sounds of their own. So whatever you do I would recommend adding some fx to each midi instrument (if necessary) then converting the whole piece into a WAV file.

Straight MIDI is most often cheezy sounding and cannot compare to old retro games and their phat analog synth sounds.

http://www.findmidis.com/ "The world's favorite free MIDI site"

or

http://www.anvilstudio.com/ Anvil Studio ™ is a free Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP program designed for people who want to:
# record music with MIDI and Audio equipment,
# compose music for MIDI and Audio equipment,
# Sequence music with MIDI equipment, or
# play with music using a computer and sound card.
With the free version, you can create an unlimited number of MIDI tracks, and a one-minute audio track. With the $19 optional Multi-Audio accessory, you can record and real-time mix up to 8 sixty-minute audio tracks.

I play around with Anvil Studio occasionally.
