I World is my 'interactive world editor'. You build landscapes, paint on roads, rock sand, mud, paint on trees, place buildings then 'run'. When you run the world it'll be populated by cars, people, police and you will be placed in control of a gun carrying player (pistol, shotgun, machinegun, rocket launcher), and are set free to steal cars, blow up stuff, do stunts..whatever!

For info and screens of 'i world' go here;
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=40164&b=8

Download the latest 'i world' test (13.5mb!!);
http://www.byhmm.co.uk/iworldtestversion.zip

Please post any minor improvements youd like to see in the final release (soon).

Enjoy!

Oh, and pressing F1 brings up a picture showing the controls for the editor.

im not sure if you know the controls, but when you're playing you can lock on to targets with control. Control with the rocket launcher brings up a 1st person mouse aim.
Did you mean add maouse aiming for other weapons?

and there are cheats; in the settings menu, you can set unlimited ammo, no cops, invincibility etc.

I'll work on the rest.

press F1 and a diagram of the keyboard comes up. But heres some general control info;

+/- key tends to increase/decrease effect. eg. in hill mode you raise/lower hills with these keys. In 'object' mode these keys raise/lower the object height.
in tree mode it increases/decreases the density of the forest in the defined area.

spacekey - when in any matrix mode, this paints the landscape with the currently selected texture (select texture in the menu bar).

return key places and object when in object mode.
delete key delets object when in object mode.

Thats about it, i think.

oh, arrowkeys = move

This program is really addictive. I could spent hours and hours playing around with it. The very last thing I made with i world was a long road that gets higher and higher, then finally cuts off. It was fun to watch the car make a dive in mind air then crash.

There was a few things I noticed whiled playing around.

1) collision sometimes makes cars go through buildings and terrain that has an incline.
2) some cars get stuck in a spinning loop. They just keep going in circles.

Some improvements:

1) Customizable terrian size. If the matrix was smaller in size i world could run a little faster.

2) In the future maybe customizable scripts (text files) for the cars and people.

3) Objects not in view should be hidden to help speed up i world.

@ Waggames: yes it is. the only plugin used was BlueGUI for the editor.

Thanks for all the input everyone. Im working on what i think is possible to do. Im mainly trying to get rid of the 'disapearing into buildings and terrain' thing. Though its not really a bug, i agree it'd be alot neater if thing like that dont happen. However, past attempts have ben less than succsessful.

Im glad your all having fun with it though, hope to see some of your maps in the future!

Could you remove that loud wind noise? It's annoying...
Other than that, it's a good game. Maybe make it so that when you're killed you respawn, it's annoying having to restart it.

BTW, to respawn rather than have to reset, just press TAB.

aks74u : I dont know whats going on there if everyone else managed to d/l it. Must have been some temporary thing to do with the server.
If not, make sure you keep internet explorer running. The same thing happens to me when downloading stuff if I close the browser.

I've gotten really good at making maps with this. I don't really know how many people got in to making them, but this is really fun to play with. I'll have to upload some maps soon!

There's one problem I had that I haven't been able to figure out yet. It's the trees. When trying to apply them it doesn't work.

when adding trees:
- you need to be in 'add forest' mode.
- make sure the current range (marked by the red boxes) is at least one tile in size (adjust size with shift + +/- keys).
- press +/- to inc/dec effect.
- You cannot paint trees underwater or on top of roads.

Segestion:
Abiblity to modify terrain with the smallest brush and place a fixed spawn point. Also, a automaticly go into game option(for individual maps) would be good.

HOLY CRAP!!!! i didn't get a chance to play teh first test of this, but my god this is damn awesome! i was playing around in teh map befor ei knew what buttons were what, I love the car physics! i slid around a corner off a cliff intot eh water and the cops chased me in there. anyway this is teh kinda map editor I'm after for the mog im working on, i'll show it to the other guy on the team and see what he says, cause i'd love to have this for it, (teh mog is listed in teh game theory section if ur interested.) gonna whipp up a quick tundra map now.

edit: I made an awesome corner with a big mountain with forest at the bottom, but i thought i'd see what building si could put down, is ther anyway to change teh building selection from that big sky scraper? cause i've seen other buildings in the other maps. but anyway i made it all awesome, but then i pressed esc before saving also, if you place a mud tile over a tundra tile, how do you revert the tile back? or hasn't that been put in.

To change the buildings, press shift and + or -. There are quite a few buildings. I was suprised at how many.

Those cops are really aggressive. With the way they drive to catch me, their life really is on the line. And the unlucky guys usually end up in the water after I'm done with them.

@ Badname: The car models are from DarkMatter 1. The people models are also from DM1, but with edited textures and i've split them up into legs and torso for more flexibility in animation etc.

@ Uberwiggett robx: Glad your having fun with it! I plan to release the load map code so that people may use their maps in their own programs. You can only revert a tile's texture by selecting the texture it had previously and the painting over.

o ok hold shift and + or -, cause i was +'ing but it was only raising the object. And thanks Hmm, if my partner wants to use the editor aswell im sure he wouldn't mind having you onboard aswell, though i haven't spoken to him yet about wether we are going to sell it or make it freeware mog, cause he is getting together a few other artists to help. but there will always be a spot for you, just probably not a paying one :/ well back to design a cool medieval tundra, might throw in some of my own building models.

@Hmm:

This is really cool but there is some inprovements that you should take care off:

*The control of the cars is really hard the car is always sliding.

*Make the player run faster!

*better acceleration on the cars.

oh, to make the player go faster you can sprint by pressing \ or z. This uses up stamina, so you have to stop to recouperate.

will work on the other stuff if it seems to be general opinion.

pressing F1 whilst editing or playing the game brings up a keyboard map showing what the controls are. Try it out to see if its clear enough. Will add a good list of controls with next version though.

controls were fine, and you jave to set invincibility etc before you run the map. also, i couldn't turn a mud tile back to a tundra, cause you can't select tundra as a tile unless you're selectign teh whole map. haven't tried putting in my own oibjects yet, might do that when i get time today.

This is great!

But you still need to change something and make some more inprovements!

One of the first inprovements you could make is that it is a really big problem that you cant rotate the camera so if you try to make a road that is behind an high building.
And ofcourse we want more stuff to build on the map
Its really fun and here is some screenshots from a city we made in it. Just click on the download button in the right corner.

The physics engine must have taken a lot of work!!

the level editor is nice, but running around the levels is even nicer

@walaber: Glad you liked it!
and yes, the physics has taken ages to get to this point, which is kind of a pain since you're about to release the wrapper that can produce results far better than my physics with much less effort
Oh well, maybe I can make an 'i world 2' utilising the new vehicle module in Newton and ragdolls and loads of destructible scenery! Have to say im very excited about that prospect!

@ lase: do you mean age rating? I guess i should put one in cos of the violence and blood splattering! thanks for saving me against a mob of angry parents filing law suits (yes, i know that probably wouldnt happen, but y'know, just in case).

@lase: well, i guess it would be a PG, or maybe a 12 because of the violence and blood, but lack of bad language and full frontal nudity (planned for version 2 !)..jk

As for where im going from here; well first is to actually finish the program proper and it shall be pretty much as is now. Website will then follow.
I do plan to add bridges, though these will not be traversed by AI cars as it would involve a vast change from the current AI system. However, you'll still get to run across them, flying off the edge into the sea below .

btw: Uberwiggett robx I am interested to see what youve done with the program, but where can I get your map and models?

I think that the game is too slow paced and you don't move fast enough. I also think there should be a faster way to restart without having to go to edit map and then to play map again. I also turned off the police but they still followed me! It's still a fun game, though.

It's not that. It's that Hmm didn't use a delta time system to always make the game run at the same speed. Try it. Play in an empty scene, then get into a car, and drive around. Then, load a fully-fledged map and play it, and then drive around in another car. The framerate goes from 67 to around 20.
