Ok lets face it, unless you are rich, or a software pirate, you can't afford 3d Studio Max. Retail is over $3000. So my question is are there any other programs that are good, use bone animation, and the bone animation works with DBPro?

Try MilkSahpe...it's a great program and lots of tutorials on the net for it.

I use it myself, and has lots of file types to export to.

Try my JTedit alpha release. It's free at http://www.jtgame.com/jtedit and features native support for skinned mesh and segmented frame .x files.

I would personally recommend Milkshape as the easiest option

I think Milkshape will ultimatly be the program I use. I tried JTEdit and while it looks more powerful the Milkshape, after going through the online tutorial for JTEdit, I was left wanting and still a little lost. With in 20 minutes of working with milkshape without any tutorial I could reproduce the Finger that JTEdit does in the Tutorial. I feel ultimately that if JTEdit was more stable & had better documents I would use it, but for now I will stick with Milkshape.

Yep, Milkshape leads the way in low cost, 3d modellers. It's also got some neat features like the .mdl decompilers and over 20 exporters, not including th list of ones you can download from the website.

By the by, milkshape doesn't charge royalities like some other 3D programs, right?

Kazaa. I'm sure they (Discreet) won't mind as long as you don't sell your game.

Fool. You wonder why prices are so high? Discreet needs to charge more because of all of the copies they lose through KaZaA. Why pirate- its so cheap. Get the 20 for milkshape. If you cant afford it- then you cant have it.

I don't know why people think that they have the right to pirate stuff if they can't afford it, its just pathetic.

Anyhow, get MilkShape, for what it is, it is fantastically cheap, about £15! - For a full 3D model editor, plus it can convert between 3DS,LWO,X and a dozen other formats.

Current Project: Retro Compo. Entry.
