The Mods do good work around here but I was wondering how these somewhat normal people became the mighty mod. Like what are the requirements? Is any inside work(with The Game Creators themselves)
Connections with the Dark Basic mafia maybe? With all joking aside how do you become one. Oh yeah and I'm not looking into becoming one so dont go off into how I'll never become one and give it up but I'm just curious.

If there was, would we be allowed to tell you ?

No, I'm not doing any inside work .

Several months back Rich said he was looking for some new mods, because some of the old ones had drifted off and the forums had grown a lot, and there just had to be more people monitoring the forum. A bunch of people volunteered and he picked those who were in ideal time zones, had been around long enough to be trustworthy, and, I think, were vouched for by some people (though that might have just been to collect names). Right now we have plenty, but if the forums keep growing, who knows, I'd bet that there might be another recruitment .

Why do people like being mods? Does it give em great pleasure when people look up to them? Just because they have a different tag than users, doesn't mean they are "mighty". Being a mod is a lot of work, and it's a waste of time IMO.

P.S: I will never accept a mod position if it comes to it one day.

It's nice to have your work appreciated, however great or small it is, and I'm not ashamed of that....

Erm, Mouse answered to your question :

Quote: "Several months back Rich said he was looking for some new mods, because some of the old ones had drifted off and the forums had grown a lot, and there just had to be more people monitoring the forum. A bunch of people volunteered and he picked those who were in ideal time zones, had been around long enough to be trustworthy, and, I think, were vouched for by some people (though that might have just been to collect names). Right now we have plenty, but if the forums keep growing, who knows, I'd bet that there might be another recruitment"

And then there is the topic search, if you type "mod", you'll find several threads with the same question.

I guess I don't post a lot, so I don't really get this contempt for the mods. On the subject of mods, I do hope that they abide by rules set out by TGC, and not just enforce their own will ad-hoc. The one problem about volunteer mods is that they tend to lock, moderate, police (whatever you wanna call it) to their standards. That's how you create division and anger - double standards...

btw I'm not implying anything, it's just a thought ...

We might have to ask a few members first - they can get touchy when things get locked j/k

Seriously now, how many people ask how you become a mod. Hundreds. Lets do a search for "mod" on the forums and see what comes up

Would you stop with the mod-bashing? I think I might have to whip out a temp ban if you keep that up.

I respect TCA for his works, he's a nice one, and Mouse and the other mods, it's a big quantity of work to be a mods. I'll never want to be a mods and i can't be a mods, it's for my behaviour.

adr,

Yes, one potential problem with mod's having the 'powers' that they do is that double standards could arise.

However, in our instance, we actually talk everything through, both before, and after it is done

With the addition of the most recent mods, we now all hang around in the mods section to discuss what's going on, who's getting close to a ban, what's been locked, who overstepped the bounds, who deserves to have their approval status taken off and be upgraded to a full acount... etc, etc etc.
It works quite well actually, and allows us to see how we all think

Ben, to answer your question;
In my case, I was nominated by Arkheii *points to Arkheii's post just up there*
After he(/she?) nominated me, a great discussion ensued, and everyone came to a general agreeance that I helped people alot, and was deserving, and thus, I was given Modship

BTW, thanks again Arkheii! 'tis much appreciated

Jess.

I threatened to rustle Rich's cattle in the night, and sell them to a beef-jerky packing plant in switzerland. Of course under the weight of this ominous and violent threat Rich had no recourse but to mod me for life.
