I am disturbed to read many people say that DBpro is a good application because it ' allows small games to be developed in days rather than weeks. '

Am I the only one to realise that the title is DARK BASIC-PROFFESIONAL which means that in the long run I expect to program games of fair size and quality. Am I a poor deranged fool for allowing the application name to give me the wrong impression.

The great thing about DBP is that you can create very small games in a day or two OR you can spend months on a game that will look absolutley stunning! It all depends on how much time and patience you plan on putting into your game and the amount of imagination you have.

well if you think about it taking after the kin products Amos Std & Amos Pro ... although yes possible to produce such results. The adverage wannabe programmer isn't likely to

Once you learn the product to a scale where you prefer to develop your own functions than use the internal functions... you'll be in a better position to judge yourself

Yeah. You can produce a decent(ish) game quite quickly - for example my Bounce game (in the programs forum) which took around 4 hours! However if you spend a LOT of time perfecting your programming, handling, modelling and 2d art techniques, you can eventually create VERY professional results. It might take you months, or even years, but it'll still be 10 times quicker than trying to make the same project in C or worse, VB

I have a feeling most people dont make proffessional level games because they cant follow through to the end. A normal human trait.

Moral is the main issue, ideas running dry is another. The 3rd problem is lack of groups you can actualy meet and discuss things. Thats especial true where I live.

you only thing that can makes application faster then this DBpro wood be sum thing like VIRTOOL back up by MAYA, we just do`t have the money to pay thing like that

My problem most the time is I get distracted by new ideas so don't finish old ones. If I'd stuck to the original ideas to the end I'd probably have a fair few good games under my belt - or complete games, even if they're not that good!

The overall challenge to me, I think, will be graphics (models and world designs could take a while themselves) and AI. Right now I am working on my own program and I see most of the core programming being finished fairly quickly.

When I programmed in C and C++ I found attention to detail took up my time and instead of spending time improving effects etc I was debugging. I always felt that DB1 had potential to be quite proffesiional depending on the game but had a lot of limitations. I didn't see any with DBPro except perhaps the speed which we are assured will be improved.

As I said I was only worried by the fact nobody appeared to be considering a large game.

I had an idea Wednesday.
I then started laying out the graphics and
I started the coding last Wednesday (January 15) at 7:29 PM.

I find myself trying to master events that I would use in the future.

I thought that with DBpro I could put my wits to work on new commands but the whole system handles differently...

I have alot of small snippets; alot of my small snippets break off into tests and my tests break off into other tests...

I do find tho once I have figured explanations to all these possible problems, what I had originally intended seems less challenging than figuring out the next important barrier.
