I have changed my game from a 2d Mario side scroller to more of a collect all the goodies on this level type of thing - what type of game is that called normally a platform? anyway can anybody point me to a demo or some code that might be good for building one of these.

Assuming you're asking if your game's going to fall under the genre of platformer (your post is a little tricky to understand) then I would say yes.

You'll want to look into a tile engine for your game. There's a post about this in this forum that contains source for just that.
